I am waiting to get the new iPhone 5. I heard there are issues pairing a bluetooth connection between the 2010 Prius IV and the iPhone. Can anyone provide any information regarding this?
I just got my 2011 Prius IV and it paired with my iPhone 4. I had to turn off the bluetooth (on the iPhone) and then turn it back on to get it to pair the first time but since then it connects right away and sounds great, no more fiddling with little BT earpieces.
The issue with iPhones has not been in pairing and use with the Prius handsfree system, because it works very well. The issue is that due to a limitation in iOS, it is not possible to sync contact data from the iPhone. Contacts have to be entered manually, or using another BT handset. It's not possible to say at present whether the iPhone 5 and its version of iOS will have the same limitation, but it does seem likely.
Both 2007 and 2011 non-Nav JBL, and original iPhone, 3GS and 4 models. AFAIK, there's no option or setting in iOS to send data via BT, short of jailbreaking the phone. Absent that, my cars have simply sat and waited for data that they have never received. I used a Razr, though I've heard of others who managed to get contact data uploaded by using a BT-enabled laptop.
Bluetooth pairing is a breeze. I think the concern is with iOS and the Toyota interface. Toyota provides all these wonderful things and Apple won't let you use it and release features one-by-one (no metadata and only late last year were we able to change tracks thanks to an iOS4 update). I had the same issue and realised that I can't use the same method as I did with my RAZR. With the iPhone, you simply send the entire phonebook and override everything in the Prius as opposed to the RAZR where you send a new contact one by one. (i.e. use the Replace Contacts button)
