I know this subject has been had - but I was sent this site by a co-worker and just had to post it for a laugh... http://www.lewrockwell.com/decoster/decoster70.html
On line that really stood out to me: How is that bizarre or pathetic. I became a member because it got me a $200 savings on my Prius. But even if I hadn't, I certainly don't see anything pathetic about supporting them. And I even am against them in some areas, but I still think their overall goal is worth. I think much of what she states is to a very small degree valid, although there's 2 reasons people may hate SUV's (not just the one group she pretty much mentions). 1. Because of the reasons she states. 2. Becuase of the pollution and fuel they waste, in many cases for no reason. An SUV carrying 1 person without towing or any cargo is a waste. An SUV for a family with 4+ kids makes sense.
A pretty pathetic article... reactionary, and they manage to overly stereotype the entire world into two camps. That's just great.. I understand she's just criticising whoever wrote that one book that stereotyped SUV drivers, but her conclusion, that the free market is "glorious" and that SUVs are an epitome of how great our American system is... is a sad point. There are legitimate reasons to criticise certain SUV owners... and I can criticise without resorting to stereotypes like she does.
