I've read through a lot of the pricing threads and a lot of the pricing experiences seem to be on the west coast and mid-west. Looking for some guidance on pricing around NYC. I've shopped around in person and via email through TrueCar. TruCar lists the Factory Invoice at $23,274 and one sales manager that I spoke with quoted me the Prius II that I want at invoice, but the price he quoted was around $200 higher than the TrueCar invoice price. From research I've done it appears that even $200 over invoice is still a good deal, right? Do the ad fees and destination fees vary from one dealer to another? Could that be the source of the $200 difference?
Yes, fees can vary between dealers. You'll have to ask if the price he gave you included all said fees. I doubt it. Also, starting with 2011, the trims are now 2, 3, 4 and 5. The roman numeral numbering system was only for 2010. It was ended as to not confuse people with the upcoming launch of the Prius v (though it's a bit too late in the confusion department).
I have my doubts as well. The wording in his email sounds promising though. He gave the price and then added 'plus taxes and dmv fees.' I asked him to provide a summary of the final cost outlining all fees and taxes. I sent a request to him via TrueCar and followed it up with an email outlining my situation and needs. That's really the extent of my communication. Have you heard of anyone in our area paying invoice with basically no negotiation? Ah... That explains why I see the trim levels designated differently on the internet.
AAA shows the invoice of a 2011 Two at $23274, MSRP at $24280 & AAA member price of $24774 for zip code 10020. Move the purchase down to South Jersey (08077) & the member price drops to $23774. If you can get the car for under $23774 you have a fantastic deal for the times. I am suspicious of their low price. What's the catch? High mileage? Damage? Used? Register the VIN at Toyota Owners - Official Toyota Owners Website & get the dealer history.
I'm a bit suspicious as well. I have the invoice sheet on the car and it's definitely brand new. No miles or damage. I should know more in the next couple of days. I'll let you know.
Went to look at the car in person today and everything seems legit. The car has 1 mile on the odometer and still has the protective film on the hood & trunk. I got them to put together a buy sheet/purchase order and the numbers match up and are definitely invoice (or at least very close.) Put down a deposit today and hopefully will take delivery later this week.
Yes the white protective film, not a Clearbra. Picked up the car this evening. Couldn't be more happy. $23,400 (plus taxes, title & registration.) I even got lucky and scored a parking spot on my block.
Dude score on the parking spot:rockon:. Living in "South Slope' I know how hard parking on your block could be.
Fantastic story! This gives me hope for lower prices on the East Coast. Hopefully someone in NY will be willing to give me a Prius 2 for $22K. Enjoy the car!
