I had to test this, with a pencil substituting for a tail, and am not fully comforted by the results.

On three windows, not possible. Over numerous trials in multiple locations, the windows reversed under very light pressure.

The fourth window also reversed under light obstruction over most of its width. But over a few inches next to the B pillar, it did not reverse at all. The pencil emitted crunching noises, and now has eight very deep gouges.

While I find a tail amputation very atypical, I can't dismiss it as impossible under all circumstances. No way in h*ll am I going to retest this section with my fingers.

You could always try a piece of raw meat on a thin wooden skewer.

Was this on an angled section where the window acts like a shear?

I just tested the windows on the rental Prii I am driving right now and all four windows stopped then went down with a pen used as a tail :) Even tested with the pen in the corners and they always went down after touching the pen.

I would think a HOT DOG would make a perfect test material....
I would think Hebrew National Hot Dogs would work great, after all they answer to a higher authority, and when the test is over, you can eat the results..... :D

Driver's window, within four inches of the B pillar. I can't see any reason why it behaves different than the same sections of the other three windows.

I bet the neighbours weren't fully comfortable with you mooning them like that. I don't even want to know how you either held or affixed the pencil.

So any actual test finger results?
(I like the hot dog idea, as long as it's not dachshund variety)

Hot dog is too soft. You might as well use tofu if you want.

Only auto up / down windows have the reverse function, so pre 2010 only the drivers window - 2010 & 2011 all 4 windows will reverse.

I tried that with a Corndog but my window broke! Guess I should have thawed it first.

    Hmm...

The debate on this thread seems to center around it's "possibility". Is it a troll thread? Or could this really happen?

Well congratulations to the OP in either case. If you are a troll? You got numerous Prius owners to run out to their vehicles and insert phalic symbols into their windows...in an attempt to see if damage was possible...

If you are NOT a troll and you now have a tail less dog...sorry about the dog. But I would say that indeed this is something Toyota would want to design against happening. If your 2008 Prius did inadverdently become a Doggie Tail Guillotine? Then it's a failure of design.

One post...no follow up...no 1000 word picture of a tail less dog with a cone around it's head...???

I'm suspicious to say the least about the validity of this reported happening.

You're assuming it was a meat hot dog. What if a Tofu Pup was used as the test phallic object?? :D

This was in the privacy of a closed room (garage), where snooping will get them in trouble with the state's anti-voyeurism laws.
I will leave that to your imagination.
