Hello everyone i was gonna write this thread last night when it happened but i was trying to figure out what i did. I was cleaning my interior yesturday, steering wheel, glovebox, dashboard etc. I am using a turtle wax gel that i put on a rag not directly on the surface and clean like i always have to any of my cars over the years. The difference with the prius is it has that little window near the windshield that projects your speed, gas, etc display so we as the driver can see it, well i knew to be careful here since i can see like a circuit board inside and not to spray anything directly over this area but i cleaned around it gently and i did go directly over the glass area to clean but not with a dripping soaked cloth or anything. Well later that night i decided to go out since my prius was looking all nice and clean(i also decided to do the exterior) to my surprise as i went to turn my lights on my display disappeared totally, i turned the lights off and the display came back. HMMM i thought oh oh what happened or what did i do and then realized the only thing different i did was clean the entire dash for the first time. I tried to turn them off and on for about 10 mins and the same the dash went black as soon as the lights were turned on. So i drove home freaking out that i just caused some electrical problem with the dash display, but there was nothing i could do but go inside and try it again in the morning. So in the morning i woke up first thing and tried the lights and to my excitement the dash display stayed on( thank god) Has this happened to anyone here as well? and did i clean somewhere i shouldnt of? Thanks for everything
When you cleaned the dash you probably turned the rheostat that dims the dash lights. Find the knurl wheel and turn it back up.
I thought of that but it was still set correctly. One weird thing it did was when i turned the lights on the dash would stay lite for a split second then go black. Weirdest thing ive seen but thanks
I did EXACTLY same thing...cleaned my Prii 1st when I got it...and then dash went black!! Try scrolling the ODO-lights-wheel by the steering wheel dash back and forth...
