I bought mine from Factorykiss - the lines are sharp and help.... The actual camera is amazingly detailed in the image it conveys....
If you don't mind answering: 1) Does the camry 09 unit just clip into the pocket after you remove the blank or do you have to screw or glue it in? 2) Is the camera pretty much flush around the surrounding the hole? Any worries about water seepage going up in there? Thanks again btw!
Thanks rrolff! Do you know if there is a difference in the way the factorykiss one vs the camry 09 version mounts to the hole? I want a backup camera with the closest OEM fitment as possible. The image detail is a definite plus!
It all goes together easily - except the boot. I never removed it - and now am happy I didn't... Some of the helpful pointers for getting it working: 1. Give the camera power from the wiper (I think blue wire) 'T' splice it... It's accessory on - so whenever the car comes on, the cam is on (while it doesn't really need to be on - it doesn't hurt anything either). 2. Then get the 'reverse' power at the reverse tail light (drivers side) - and run that to the HU to switch the camera image on/off. 3. Now you only need to get the yellow composite video cable through the boot (ONLY is a relative thing). I've done it two ways: a. Cut off the end, used a coat hanger and duct take, and fished it through (harder than it may seem it should be) - then re-solder a yello composite connector (very hard - as the wires are tiny). Also use lube... b. Carefully grind down the outside yellow plastic - be careful to keep some stiffness for the metal prongs. Use lube and a coat hanger/duct tape. One hint - after playing for too long, I finally decided to cut a small slit (a few mm long) in the boot - this allowed me to fiddle with a needle nose too... This made it simple. While there is a small slit in the rubber - it is VERY small, and not noticeable... Since you'll have lube all over the place, careful not to muck up the headliner...
1. I made the "clip" on the camera a little wider so it would hold nicely.. The camera can be moved front back by hand as it stands.. however I dont think this will be a problem if it does at some point I might use glue else not really. 2. The camera is flush 95% there is less than quarter inch clearance compared to the blank that was there.. however I have read somewhere I think in ( rrolff! 's ) post that there should be that space so water does not accumulate back there.. it made sense to me so I did it this way...
Got one step closer with the boot I think. Can someone tell me if this pic seems OK on the bottom of the boot? I have gotten the boot on the white piece... can someone tell me if the boot needs to go under the metal of the car? Thanks, Jay
haha... i think that i can live with those scratches there... i wish I would have given it more thought before...
I have a very dumb question. It is 2011, why isnt everyone using video to showcase their beautiful joys lol. I just wanna see a video....please!!!! lol. Thanks very helpful with the cut in the boot. How much did everyone pay for their cam?
I bought mine for $32 after discount and together with HU. Camry09 model: Toyota Camry 09 backup cameras - Toyota Camry 09 rearview cameras - Toyota Camry 09 cameras - Toyota reverse cameras Currently they have HD version for $49.
If you use the shower gel as I did, there is no damage potential. Your headliner will be cleaner maximally.
so for some reason now my camera shows the image flipped left shows on the right and right shows on the left... any ideas? thanks,
There is usually a setting in your head unit for the camera that will allow you to "flip" the video image.
