    Race is not a polite subject of conversation in Canada. Here, the government asks you for your race every time they do a census. It surprised my when I first moved here but you get used to it.

    I've driven hybrids since 2000, and the first person that was not white I saw driving one was 2005 or 2006.

    The Canadian government census includes questions about race, too. The 'long form' version, which few people received and was the subject of much controversy last year, has a section of 'sociocultural information' that includes place of birth, language(s) spoken, ancestry, and religion. The questions are carefully worded, and I don't think the word 'race' is ever mentioned. Strangely enough, there is indeed a circle to tick for 'white'.

    I am black and I have a prius . I wish I read the article first and I would have known that I didnt really want one. LOL .The reality is people in general don't see the real value of a prius because of the many articles saying you will never safe enough to equal your extra costs.
