WHen I rented the Prius for a few days, I noticed that if the driver seat belts were not in use, there would be a 15 second beep which would turn off. But every time you stop, put in reverse, and then back into drive, you get the 15 second beep. Now to the normal driver, this would be no big deal. But I drive a paper route and do not wear my seat belts due to the decreased mobility needed to throw the route. I pull into driveways quite often and I have to listen to that beep every time I put it in reverse and then drive off. Is this something I have to live with or can I disable this somehow? thanks. Ken
A simple search for seat+belt+beep found this article in the knowledge base: How to eliminate Reverse Beep & Seatbelt Beep And this thread: Eliminated reverse & seat belt beeping
GOOD NEWS!!! It can be turned off. 1.) Power on (ignition on will do) 2.) Set trip/ODO to ODO (if its already on ODO you will have to cycle through) 3.) Power off 4.) Power on w/brake on 5.) (Within 6 seconds), press and hold the ODO for 10 seconds or more 6.) While STILL holding the ODO *after 10 seconds*, buckle BOTH seatbelts. Now release the ODO 7.) You will see in the trip display either a "b on" or "b off" 8.) Press the ODO to toggle between "b on" or b off" YOU WANT "b off" 9.) Now power off. If battery is disconnected, you may lose your setting. Default is always "b on"
Following the instructions in post #3 will turn off the reverse beep. Substituting step #6 with procedure outlined in post #4 will defeat the seat belt reminder. If you follow both sets of procedures, both types of beeps will be eliminated. I highly recommend reading to the two threads which I linked in post #2, as they contain some caveats.
