HEHE got myself a new prius II today for $23029 + 8.25% tax and lic. fee with a 1.9% APR. Out the door price was about 26000 with the addition of a 7 year 100k mi bumper to bumper warranty that also covers the hybrid powertrain. Quite happy actually because originally my parents was gonna pay for my car but after some calculations, my sister and i decided i was able to afford a new car. Never thought i would be purchasing a new car at the age of 19. so excited Planned mods (when i have more money): -Tint -HID -Aftermarket Homelink -HELLAFLUSH
Brand new? Congrats. I just got mine 1.5 weeks ago. My parents bought me a base-model Civic with no radio when I was younger. I didn't buy my own until my mid-20s. I had to look up hellaflush. Does that affect mpg?
possibly since i have to get heavier bigger rims. But lowering the car would give it more aerodynamic therefore higher mpg. i really have no idea how it would affect mpg but i wouldnt mind sacrificing a couple miles.
You have a factory warranty that covers the hybrid system for 10 years or 150k. They ganked you on that extra warranty.
gahh i thought the hybrid warranty was longer. sister said to get it because of the hybrid powertrain and the convenience of getting free tows and rental when something happen to the car(her experience with mercedes was not great).
Usually your towing is covered by your insurance company. Don't worry, I made the same mistake back in 2005. I've never had a major repair on my Prius and I have never needed a tow. I have 141,000 miles on the car.
Never thought i would be purchasing a new car at the age of 19. so excited WoW, That is exciting! :humble: I was able to buy my first new car at 25. Good For You. Enjoy your new ride and welcome to PC. lane:
Woot woot! But from now on, never let the parents know you have as much money as you actually do. Hella sick mods you have planned. Hope you stick around.
OP, you have a time window to return the warranty for full reimbursement. I think it is 30 days, but you would have to check to be sure. Put the money saved towards paying down high interest debt or find a reasonable interest bearing account and leave the money there in case you need it for repairs. More than likely you will have it to spend 6 years from today. I try to not insure (or self-insure, as the case may be.) Since I had to pay an $80 towing bill last week I reviewed again how this has worked out for us. We stopped buying towing insurance about 10 years ago, and over that time we have called towing companies 4 times and spent about $200. Towing insurance would have cost us $500 - $750. I think this is typical of 'good' insurance -- it costs about 3x what average straight-up out of pocket costs will be.
Ganked ???? That cracked me up .... never heard it before ... but it sounds appropriate !! LOL. Agreed on the extra warranty part. Easy to cancel so soon after the deal. I think the dealer essentially makes a payment to your loan .... you won't get cash back I don't think if you financed the warranty. The dealer won't be happy and will fight tooth and nail with you to talk you out of cancelling it, but you CAN do it. With a Prius, it IS kind of a big waste of money .... buy gas for a few years instead. REV
Yep, if the warranty cost was rolled into the loan then cancellation decreases the loan amount by the warranty cost. The difference seems trivial to me, but ymmv
Nice! im 19 and i just bought a brand new prius 2 on july 2 myself never thought of getting a car new either hahaha! Sea4Yourselves: My prius looking sneaky after tint. so far i did to my car
Congrats Timmy. Do like they say and wait until there are few customers in there and raise your voice a little on the "warranty" refund. You can do it. "ganked" !! It's a California thing. lol. We get ganked all the time out here.
