There's an excellent chance I'm going to embarrass myself here - but I've got to ask. My wife noticed, for the first time last night, a blinking red alarm at the lower, right corner of the instrument panel after turning off the car. I went out to look at it. It appears to be an icon of a red car with a...key(?) in the middle. The icon flashes so briefly that it's very difficult to discern what it looks like. It goes away when we start the car. Any ideas? Thanks...and apologies ahead. --P
Uhh... I'm going to go for a long shot here... but is that the security system status light? Typically those blink to show that the system is active while the car is locked up.
No problem, it's an indicator light that shows the hybrid vehicle immobilizer is active. As iluvmacs said it's part of the security system. Refer to page 21.
This brings up the value of your Owner's Manual, a very handy reference indeed. There's a section that explains all the warning lights...there's a LOT of information there, and it is indexed. It would pay to at least leaf through it and acquaint yourself with the contents. I'll bet you'll find stuff you'll want to read as you do that. Nothing wrong with getting help online, though it may be slower and sparser than getting it in context in your Owner's Manual. -Roger
Thanks to all. The wife has "misplaced" the OM. I'm surprised I hadn't noticed the light before now, since we have certainly engaged the parking brake before... --P
<_< Hi pablo If you find the "misplaced" Owner's Manual (how can you "misplace" an over 300 page manual?) check Section 1-2 "Features on New Toyota Vehicle" and pages 6 and 44 for "Theft Deterrent System."
