The people behind DashCommand for the iPhone and Android want to “gauge†the interest of PriusChat readers in a custom version of DashCommand for Prius. DashCommand, along with a ODBII interface like the Kiwi WiFi, will enable an iPhone or Android phone to display a variety of engine/drivetrain parameters in a variety of digital and analog gauges, plus data logging and OBD-II error code readouts. They would create a custom version that would potentially provide all key Prius operating parameters on the OBD-II bus. More information about DashCommand with display examples can be found at

DashCommand - Palmer Performance Engineering, Inc.

The e-mail address for your input with list of desired data is PPE Support <[email protected]>.

I know there was another thread here trying to pull together support for a “home-brew†iPhone interface to devices like the Kiwi WiFi. Here’s an opportunity to have some pros build one for us.

BTW, the website for the Kiwi WiFi is PLX Kiwi Wifi - Connect your iPhone / iPod Touch to your car's OBD2 OBDII Port.

Very cool, and kudos to DashCommand for taking time to look into this. I was already looking into acquiring an inexpensive Griffin CarTrip , but it looks like it will be put on the shelf of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware"]vaporware[/ame] products at this point. I was on Griffin's "notify me when this product is available" but that page no longer exists. Bummer.

Maybe we can convince Ian Hawkins to customize his Torque app for us :) There are much more happy users of Torque than these with DashCommand. Not sure how the situation with iPhone users is, I use Android-based device...

In case you have not seen my thread.

Torque app is $5 and importing my custom Prius PIDs is free of charge. I don't know how DashCommand can compete with that. ;)

I think it would be great for iPhone users. I bought an Android phone just to run Torque because there was no software to read out Prius hybrid specific information on iOS.

Yes! Please bring/port in support for the iPhone over bluetooth. The Torque app looks like an extremely useful app. The only thing I worry is how limiting the data is with the Gen3 considering it was originally written for the Gen2? I'd gladly pay $5+ from the Apple App Store even if it had limited support for Gen3 but with promise for more work in the future.

Hmm, I wonder if an android emulator for iOS is available on the internets that would run this app while I wait? :p

I believe Apple locks down the bluetooth library so you won't see OBDII apps using bluetooth. There are WiFi adapters which are more expensive that works with iPhone app.

Torque (only for Android) started the Prius specific support with Gen3. I got interested and started to put in custom PIDs for Gen2 and worked with the developer. It now support multi-frame so it can decode almost all the data (even Gen3). It is just a matter of Gen3 owner adding more custom PIDs with the equations.

I know this is an old thread but are there any cheap android phones that I could run this program and wedge it in where the dash display is (because this is how I mount my iphone 3GS wired up to the OBDII plug). Given Dashcommand don't even support custom PID, having a cheapo android phone without using it as a phone on wireless makes more sense.
