Hello I'm new to the chat site. I'm on my second Prius, love my Prius btw. I just bought a 2010 and notice when the a/c is on there is a somewhat loud air noise coming from the back seat. It seems to come and go. Is this normal? My 05 never made this noise.
That sound you are noticing from behind could be the air flowing within the battery vent area behind the front passenger back seat. That would be my guess. :welcome:
Does the noise come from the traction battery cooling fan to the right of the passenger-side rear seat. It may be that the heat prompting you to run the A/C is also triggering the battery cooling fan. Watch and listen under variable temperature circumstances. I would not expect running the A/C and activation of the battery cooling fan to coincide perfectly very often.
it seems the battery cooling fan on the gen III is louder than the gen II in some cases. i never even knew there was a fan in there on my 04 and 08.
I've found the battery fan to be much more noticeable in my '11 than it was in my '05, but I rapidly got used to it once I realized what it was.
Yeah, it is coming from that vent where the cooling fan is. Huh I guess it's a little noiser than my 05. Thanks for the comments.
