Hello, A few months ago, you guys helped me swap out all my interior lights for LED's. Thanks a bundle! Now I'm back with a new project. I want to install a subwoofer! I have a 2008 touring prius with nav, so under-the-seat woofers aren't an option. It has to go in the trunk but I don't want to mold my own woofer enclosure. Basically, what is the EASIEST way to install a decent subwoofer? Thanks, Charlie
I use a Boss Bass 600. I got it from Amazon... Amazon.com: Boss Audio BASS600 8-Inch Low-Profile Amplified Subwoofer (Single): Car Electronics Here is what it looks like in the back of the car. It just adds the bottom that was missing for me. It will not break windows however, I just need to hear it, not the car 2 lanes away!
thanks for the reply, i appreciate it. that unit is powered on its own, correct? can you elaborate on the wiring process? that's what confuses me the most. I think i might want a woofer with a little more punch than that but i'm not sure, do you think that will get the job done and wow my friends if i play some dubstep? haha.. anyway, how do you have it anchored to the car? or is it just freestanding? thanks a ton for the help! Charlie
For me I bought a small no name tube subwoofer that is slew powered (25watt). It does the trick for me too. I have an '07. I tapped the power from the accessory outlet in the console & ran the wires under the carpet to the passenger pillar. I then tapped the right rear speaker from the passenger pillar. Those 4 wires I brought back under the carpet to where it meets the back seat. I then used 4-wire trailer wiring to bring it up to the cargo area. On the subwoofer I used the corresponding trailer connector. By doing it this way I can just use one plug to unplug the subwoofer to remove it in case I'd like to use the cargo area with the seats down. It has worked for years for me.
Yeah, the unit is self powered, I ran the leads directly to the power leads directly to the +12 battery! I made custom mounts from aluminium and bolted it to the HV battery cover. I used 1/2 inch plywood for the top and covered it with felt and Speaker cloth.Aluminium plates for the side covered in the same felt and cloth combo. Velcro holds it firmly together! The inputs to the subwoofer are taken off the feeds for the rear door speakers. The tap point is at the output of the JBL amp. That is located under the passenger seat. The +12 sense voltage can be found there to enable remote power on/off of the subwoofer. I mounted the volume control inside the center console! They also make the BOSS 1200, the 10" unit...http://www.amazon.com/dp/product/B001DXF990?tag=priuschatcom-20 It's bigger, more bass....connects the same way as the unit I have.
