I would like to change out my 2005 radio unit with a 'dead head' option that integrates a navigation package, bluetooth, ipod integration, etc....maybe even something that can render mpg or mp4 files on its own. All that I have found so far are those (IMO) cheesy things where the display screen plugs into the head unit, which itself employs CD and/or DVD. Hell, some still have extruded physical dials. The problem is that I haven't used CDs or DVDs for years and don't need the features. Also, the fit of what I have seen is poor and does not flow with the contour of the center dash area. Is there such a thing as a modern data-oriented seamless option with complimentary aesthetics out there?
Have you had a look at this post? http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...pgrade-head-unit-kenwood-excelon-dnx6960.html It might do everything you need. I'm installing a similar unit JVC KW-NT30HD; pretty sweet too: JVC KW-NT30HD / 50HDT navigation systems offer iPhone-controlled HD radio -- Engadget
Thanks for the thread referral. I had looked at that but initially didn't like the way the unit does not seat flush with the trim spacers (I know, I'm being picky ), but after even letting that much slide, it turns out that the Kenwood unit has poor iPod integration, which is fundamental to what I am looking for....it also doesn't play mp4 video. That JVC looks cool too though.
Hey why don't you look at the pioneer z130bt i think it plays mp4 i cant remember but i know for sure it plays DIVX. It also sits flush in the dash. I am picky also and i really like the way this radio looks and the features it has.
