I just replaced my OEM Goodyear Assurance @17K with 195x65x15 Hankook Optimo H727 tires. I immediately saw my MPG drop from 49-50 to 43-45. Will my MPG get any better or do I have to live with a better, smoother ride versus the better MPG I would have gotten if I replaced the OEM's with a LRR tire?
Better FE is the advantage of LRR tires. I suspect you might get a little increase once the tires wear.
This Hancook is one of the heaviest lrr tire out there. Sorry to hear it. I wouldn't be getting them now for sure. Thanks, C
Based on everything I've read they are not LRR. I passed up on the lower mpg for better handling in a tire I was able to afford.
They are not rated for LRR but I included them in my list because people liked them so much. If you go from a very worn out tire to a brand new one you should expect to lose some MPG due to rolling diameter differences and treadflex. If the tires are close in rolling resistance features then your MPG will come back. If the new tires exhibit a lower rolling resistance and are similar in weight then your MPG should come back and even exceed that of your OEM tires.
I second that! I used to commute on my civic 120miles daily to work. I keep strong records of my fuel economy logs and I noticed a 2-3 mpg drop for the first month immediatly after replacing of new tires.
