2010/1 Owners With The Lowest Monthly Mileage The 100,000 mile club thread gave me the idea to start a thread on the opposite end, those with the least in mileage. This group isn't exactly seeing maximum savings, but they are waiting to be realized whenever a road trip becomes necessary. This will most likely apply to those who commute by other means than the Prius or telecommute. Since the 2010 model is still a relatively new vehicle with some owners not yet having reached a year of ownership, feel free to include average mileage per month. I'll start. My 2010 (purchased in March 2010, so 1-1/3 years into ownership) is at ~8768 miles (included one such TX --> NM road trip). This yields an average of 548 miles per month.
Currently sitting at ~8,350 miles on the odo. It'll rise quite a bit in the next few weeks with two small vacations. One of which being the Green Drive Expo in Madison this weekend!
with all respect... Not the smartest nor most interesting Threads ever opened here. Lowest mileage - with a span of about 12 month period of the 2010 model. OK... but with such a variable and unspecific topic---?????
Well, you can petition to the mods if you don't like it or just not participate and move onto the next thread that interests you (difficult concept for some I know). The results will simply reveal how many owners acquired their cars for reasons other than outright savings on gas (like further lessening the need for foreign oil). The 2010 model has been on sale since mid-2009 for the record.
You could open it up a bit more if you just asked for low miles per week/month. (Not me, I do about 400 miles per week overall, although a dumb junk-mailing dealership thought I'd be interested in a 12k/year lease despite the mailing having much higher estimated miles.)
Do you have to work at being difficult or does it come naturally? (Yes, I know, I broke the understood troll-feeding rule).
I disagree with those of you saying this thread isn't interesting. People contemplate not buying a hybrid all the time because they don't think they'll put enough mileage on it to make it worth it.
Let me check my odometer and let you know. 7,700 something... I commute downtown on commuter train so most my driving is on weekends. I walk to train station (not green, just cheap and fat)... Try to ignore people criticising your posts... I like the subject as well. You'll learn to be more specific. Sometimes people forget that they made mistakes as well...
How about this: What's your average MPM (miles per month) or KPM (kilometers per month)? Mine: 5100 miles since January 2011= 850 miles per month average. Yeah, I didn't buy to save $$ on gas.
10,200 miles on mine. Bought it in Oct 2009. Last two tanks I've achieved 60.6 mpg. Normally fill up with gas every 3 weeks. All I hear every day is people at my work complaining about gas prices ( they all drive SUV's or low mpg cars/trucks ) so when I tell them what mpg i'm getting they all get mad at me and say they'd never buy a prius! Makes me laugh.
Very good suggestion, J5A. I'm definitely open to suggestions for refinement...for those who don't put on substantial mileage, it is definitely harder to justify the higher pricetag. This is why I myself am contemplating a trade-in to at least a plug-in (if not an all electric; the range limitation still bothers me) if I can get out of this shoddy apartment and into a house. DBaum, that looks like an average of 486 per month...you're the wiener thus far.
10,719 since July 2009. I work 1.25 miles away. Most of my miles are from a couple cross country trips. EDIT: 14,700 now.
