I have a 4 month 0ld 2005 Prius with about 4200 miles. When washing the car today at the local self car wash, I noted a black spot on the rear bumper by by the hatch back. I rinsed the area and the paint started peeling off. Has anyone else had this problem with their Prius. I planm to take it to the dealer tomorrow to get it checked out. ( I hope they will cover it under the warranty).
Where that's right on the edge of the bumper, I think they won't cover it. That could easily happen while loading luggage or something into the back. I'd look into the rear bumper protector if I were you.
Speaking of paint, does anyone know if there is spray paint that could be used for touch-ups? I got the touch up bottle with brush from Toyota, and it's ok for spot dings from rocks and the like, but I scraped the curb a couple of days ago so I need something a bit more substantial.
I agree. It looks like there was a small nick before and washing it pealed up the paint. Maybe someone scratched it with a shopping cart or walking by with a briefcase. And if they don't cover it under warranty I would get the rubber protector that lips over the edge from Sigma Automotive.
You also may _NOT_ want to use those high pressure sprayers at the self car wash. They are infamous for peeling / lifting the paint off of cars.
As Expected, The dealer stated the paint peeling was from damage to the paint. I was floored by the estimate to repair the damage. I guess it will be going without paint for a while or I will buy some touchup paint. Questions: 1. will leaving the areal without Paint undermine the sorrounding paint and finish? 2. Has any one had any experience with products from Paintscratch.com? Thanks to all for the information!
I have had the problem with other vehicles, not my Prius thankfully. If you don't get the spray paint I recommend getting some touch up paint in the bottle with the little brush. It sometimes keeps it from peeling any more.
