Howdy Folks, I just bought a 2008 prius with 70k on the odo. I bought it mostly to save on gas, i shouldn't say mostly, it's the only reason i bought it. i picked it up yesterday and topped off the tank and reset the trip odo. i drove 117 miles and the gauge only moved one bar . That made me so happy, i was watching it all day waiting for it to move. this car should pay for itself with the gas savings. i drive around 60-70k miles a year and i was somewhat leery of buying a prius because i didn't think i would be able to get 250k miles out of the car but after finding this forum and looking at 200k thread i don't think it should be a problem. well anyway, i have a few questions. i don't have xm radio and i really need to have it. i have an am/sat button but it doesn't go to sat. what do i need to do? i leave my car in park on the street while i run into buildings. will someone be able to drive off in my car if i have the key fob in my pocket? what should i have paid for an 08 with 70k? it has the navi and leather seats. i just want to know if i got a good deal. thank you.
1) welcome to the wonderful world of prius....and welcome to being another Long Island Prius owner! 2) if you want XM, you need to purchase the XM tuner from Toyota (its around $150 iirc) and have it connected to the stock HU 3) if your car is off and locked and you are no where near it, no one can just drive off with it 4) an 08 with 70k fully loaded in LI is worth about $16-$18k depending upon condition and maintenance records
Yes, if the car is left unattended and READY, then anyone who can enter the car can drive off without a fob. However once they make the car IG-OFF, they will not be able to restart the car without a fob that is recognized by the immobilizer ECU.
i might have to rethink leaving the car on when I'm not in it. i'm pretty happy with the car after 2 days. the rear window is a bit small but i'm sure i'll get used to it. thanks for the replies.
