Consumer Reports states that vehicle tracking devices cheaper than LoJack are available. They are just as good so long as they are designed for your particular car. I have a 2011 Toyota Prius III. Can anyone recommend a good tracking device if my car is stolen?
A good tracking device is no device at all, as the Prius is extremely difficult to steal. It's more likely to get broken in than stolen, especially if you leave valuables in the car like one other member.
The salesman at the dealership told me that professional thieves today tow away highly prized cars like the Prius rather than breaking into them where they are parked. A vehicle tracking device would help locate the stolen car.

How could you go wrong with vehicle tracking (i.e. LoJack)? First, you get (in most cases) a discount on your auto insurance and second, its a piece of mind. Personally, I'm not sure I see the down side.
Sure, you can get it for peace of mind, but it'll cost you just like extended warranty. The small discount you get on your auto insurance would take years to recoup, if you even keep your car that long. Financially speaking, it's just not worth it unless your car is frequently stolen. The Prius and many Lexus vehicles aren't among them.
