I picked my new 05 Prius on Friday. Of course I had read all pre-delivery information here and I was armed and ready for the dealer. I gave the car thorough inspection, or so I thought, and it and the dealer passed with flying colors.

However, when I got home I noticed the drivers side floor mat was askew, so, I repositioned it and in doing so noticed the treaded end of a bolt coming out of a hole just behind the parking break and above the driver footrest. I thought they must have knocked the cover off when putting in the mats. Just a side note here - when paying full price for new vehicle I don't want to see nuts and bolts intruding into the passenger cabin.

I called the dealer and they had no idea what I was trying to describe and asked if I could stop by the service area and let them take a look. I did and they looked, checked another new prius they had on the lot, and returned telling me the new one was the same.

The service advisors checked the schematics for that area of the car and it did show the indentation in the cabin wall that exists for this bolt to come through. It did not show the bolt or any cover for that indentation.

My questions to the group these: Are all Prii designed this way? Is this a normal Toyota design? Has anyone had a problem with this bolt.

    Thanks,

    Carlos

 I have an early 05. Looked at the area under the emergency brake. Saw the silver bolt with no nut, protruding through plastic trim. Trim exit hole molded to accept bolt. Don't know what's behind the design but it looks like the bolt helps to secure the plastic trim. Don't worry about this.

if it's behind the parking brake, it was probably meant to be hidden. i haven't even noticed it.

just enjoy your new prius- congrats! :)
