Taking over a 2010 Prius lease with 6000 miles on it next week. Called the dealer and was originally purchased last December and told it comes with the Free 2 Year Auto Care Complimentary Maintenance Program. I'm told the Program is transferable to the new owner on a Lease Transfer by simply calling Toyota Auto Care @ 1-800-228-8559. But I can't find anything on the Website regarding cost of transfer?. Or how to actually make the transfer?.

I doubt you have to do anything ... I think it stays with the car, unless there's wording to the effect that is for the original owner only.

    Worth a call I guess.

If your dealer can run a VIN Inquiry Report, the report will tell you if the Toyotacare policy is active.

Yes they did run a Vin Report and it is active... but it has to be transferred I'm told to me as the new owner at a cost of 50-75 dollars?.

Autocare and Toyotacare are two different things. Toyotacare is the free 2/25k one while the other is a prepaid maintenance agreement. The prepaid maintenance probably has a transfer fee as do most of those contracts.

Well either way HERE is the deal and Warning!. The 2year /25K Toyota or Autocare is no longer transferable as the January 1, 2011. Since the Lease I took over was purchased on December 26, 2010 - it was under Toyota Motor Insurance and was in face transferable to me for a 50.00 fee. But now the same 2 year/25k plan is covered by Toyota Dealers and no longer transferable. Another way to look at it... Use it or loose it!!!.

Be advised that the free stuff is what is listed in the manual. Mine had a sticker for 5000 mile service and they refused to change the oil. So I paid for an oil change. 10K is toooooooooooooo long!

10K is the recommended service interval in the manual. To expect Toyota or the dealerships to cover more frequent complimentary service intervals is expecting the impossible.

Well, I can think of one reason Toyota may have increased the oil change interval to 10,000 miles: It lops 2 oil changes of their 2 year complimentary maintenance plan.

In Canada we don't get this 2 year free maintenance offer, and the oil service interval is 8000 km (5000 mi), or 6 months. We were offered one free oil change, which I turned my back on, just not worth the aggravation.

Addendum: To be fair, the free oil change probably would have gone ok. I was really just itching to do my own ;)

Total consumer value of Toyota Auto Care 2 year 25K plan is 2 oil changes that cost $60 each. Who cares that Toyota gives you a $120 package with your car. I bet it cost them $20.

I have a growing suspicion the only reason we run kids through school is to habituate them to getting up early and going somewhere to spend the day, doing something.

D.O. for Toyota's gratis maintenance program?
