Have seen these on a few cars. Looks like a strip of rubber that adheres to the door edge so that if kids open it up into another car it limits damage. Are these all made the same or do I need some specific to the car? Would Toyota dealer sell them? I don't want to order online as I want them ASAP
What's wrong with using the child lock until they're old enough to be able to open the door with care? Certainly better than those door protectors which ruin the clean look.
I have installed black plastic door edge strips on my 2010. Bought them at Pep Boys. One caution: do not bother to run them around the hard angle toward the bottom of the rear doors; they just won't bend that sharply. Also, I recommend trimming the top ends short at the body angle a couple of inches below the top.
I bought the white door edge guards and had toyota put them on and you cannot even tell they are there blends in perfectly
The Toyota product also blends perfectly with a winter gray exterior. They are dead simple to install from instructions found here at PC, and I got to go buy a 12-oz rubber/plastic mallet. A successful project is one that requires the purchase of a new tool.
I'm not sure how much the door edge guards are from the dealership, but I'm going to surmise that they'll be significantly more expensive than simply purchasing some clear door edge strips from your local Auto Zone for less than $5. I put them on my daughter's CR-Z...took all of 10 minutes and they look/work great.
The problem with the clear ones is that, after a year or so, they look like complete crap. All the schmutz and road schmee gets trapped underneath them and, since they're clear, you can now see it preserved for all of posterity. I'm taking mine off and getting the white ones from Toyota.
I got the blue ribbon metallic ones, and unless you look real close, you can't tell they are there. I got mine from TRDSPARKS.COM. However, it took about 1 week for delivery because they are on the east coast (Myrtle Beach) and I am on the west coast. Also, I believe these are Toyota parts, and they are molded to conform to the Prius door. My set cost about $69.90 plus shipping. The scarry part for me was that the price list says "$69.90 Each." But that meant for the set of 4. Mike
