I have looked, but i do not know the location of the cabin air filter? can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks, DJ
It's hiding behind the glove box. If you open the lower compartment, undo the attachment on the right, and squeeze the hinge pins at the bottom, the whole thing comes right out. Then there's a tab to pull out the filter.
You'll have to take everything out of the glove compartment since it's hinged at the bottom (well, you could leave stuff in, but it will all fall out once you release the thing on the right hand side that keeps it from opening all the way!).

I've read the manual. And read the manual. And read the manual... But on many topics, not least this one, it is not as instructive as it might be. It is MUCH easier to understand when someone who has done it tells you. I was about ready to give up on this particular issue, in fact, before I had someone explain it to me. Much as I enjoy saying RTFM, it does NOT always work.
Does this apply to a specific Prius year? I have a 2007 and would like to give it a go but would like to make sure it is capatible before committing. Thanks, Jeremy
All 2G Prius (2004-2009 model years) have the same cabin air filter and glove compartment design, hence the remove/replace process is the same.
For the record, in Toyota's paternalistic wisdom, in the owner's manuals for the 2007 Prius, Toyota has omitted saying anything whatsoever about the location or replacement steps for the engine and cabin air filters* and for that matter, the engine oil filter. Of course, the engine filters are easy to find, but unless you have applicable experience with other Toyotas, the cabin air filter is not. That's an example of why information like that in this thread can be so helpful. *except to specify replacement intervals.
