As these are newer units, with 128M memory - you can likely run Garmin also (I've never tried it - but it's supposed to be good) - I agree though that iGo is very nice, and has a great community supporting it (skins)...

I also messaged the guy via eBay. He replied that he didn't have lh units.

Today I received another message that he would be willing to try to get lh units if there was enough demand, so I replied that I thought there would be and that there are several people on a "message board" that are talking about the units.

So if you get another message, I would suggest you tell him that you want one so he can gauge demand.

Yes, it has a whole host of extra outputs and connectors on the back and comes with a multipin connector with a bunch of phono plug tails to hook up to another power amp (bear in mind the Prius in the UK already has one power amp, under the drivers seat and the harness this unit is supplied with drives this and powers it up correctly).

One reason I've swapped out the Kenwood for this unit is because the Kenwood runs Garmin software. It's nothing short of abysmal, in my view, although I understand that our friends in the US have a far better version of the Garmin software over there.

I also bought this unit and have installed it in my Australian Prius.
Few little issues but nothing major. Does anyone know what this 6 pin cable does ? doesn't appear to connect to the HeadUnit, im suspecting it may of been from the AUX from the centre console ? (cant include the pic as i havent had 5 posts yet)

My Front door speakers dont appear to work, so i have sent an email back if there is any settings etc i need to do, i recall Jeremy mentioned that his uk prius has an amp, seems i have an amp under my seat as well, not sure if you need to do anything to get it to power up ? Not sure if i need to connect the amp signal cable to anything ? as it appears to be double jumpered from the antenna connector already ?

That cable is the Bluetooth mic connector for the OEM head unit and isn't used with this unit, as the mic is built in.

The front door speakers are driven by the amp under the seat and this should be powered up from the AMP pin on the power connector, if it is the same as the European Prius. This post (and the rest of the thread) may well help you out, especially if the Oz spec Prius uses the US style amp power control system, rather than the European method: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...mp-work-aftermarket-stereo-2.html#post1147608

Thanks Jeremy, Did you need to Clip on a wire from the HU connector ? or just plug all the cables in and works ok ? I dont seem to have another wire marked AMP behind the dash, so not sure if i need to splice something, or if the AU version is different yet again.

Mine was just plug and play, with the AMP wire already connected to the correct pin on the connector. There is a wiring diagram of the EU Prius here: http://priuschat.com/forums/attachm...74682482-chinese-replacement-hus-stereo32.pdf that shows the power-on wire that's needed to turn on the power amp. I had to add this wire to get the Kenwood working and I also needed to add it to get the earlier Chinese unit working but it was already wired up on this unit. On the 3rd page of that document you will see the wire labelled AMP on pin 9 of the connector. This suppies the turn on signal to the power amplifier that is under the seat, if the Oz version is the same as the EU version.

The US version uses a CANBUS signal to turn on the amplifier, which then requires an interface adapter. There is info on these in that thread I linked to in the previous post. Your best bet might be to try and get hold of the wiring diagram for the Oz RHD Prius, with luck you should be able to download it from the Oz Toyota website somewhere (here in the EU we can pretty much download any on the service documents that apply to our models, as can the guys in the US, I believe).

I've emailed you those files BTW.

Thanks again Jeremy, im not sure if the oz toyota site gives us that information, doubtful, looking at the wiring diagram seems like its pin 9 as well and doesn't matter if its nav/nonnav. Will try again next week and see if i can chase the pin from the amp (and see if its a jbl or some other kind ) with a multimeter and see where it ends up on the loom.

havent got the email yet, maybe it bounced being too big ?

    Bonsoir Jeremy
Thank you for a very interesting, factual and well detailed report on your new toy.
Definitely, you made a good deal.
And when I see people here (in France) thinking it is interesting to buy rosen or the twins around 1000€ (=1300$), your experience is of a great value

Just to confirm your opinion about Kenwood & Garmin for use in Europe: after 10 days of use, my first HU went back to the seller because of very poor & bugged Nav.
Next one was a Pioneer HD10BT (US Z110BT) excellent IMHO, but the look for the nav was a bit "oldfashioned".
I sold it (after upgrading to next gen, thx to rrolf) and the guy who got it, for the price of a cheap chinese thing, is really happy.
The one I use now is the Sony/Tomtom XNV; I like it because of the Nav & TraficInfo, but it is much more expensive than yours, and it is not plug & play.

GPS antenna : I installed mine on the top of the glove box (under the dashboard). it is really easy to access and it works perfectly.

770BT or 660? The price in EUR is more than 1250Eur or 1700 USD. It is really hard to accept that price level in EU.
What is startup time of you XNV? I realized that the startup time and quick GPS lock are very important for me.
My HU (currently 1.5 year old) has these parameteres very good and I didn't do any hard resets, just updating the NAv SW and maps. Unfurtunately FM RDS is bad.

By a stroke of luck, I have managed to win a Sony XNV-77BT, so I am presently considering swapping out the Soling unit for this. If I do, then I will stick the Soling unit on ebay, unless anyone here in the UK wants to make me an offer for it.

    Ebay Item # 150646911297

Found a similar LH unit on ebay. Has anyone seen/installed this unit before? Price seems a bit high, but perhaps they are open to lower offers. The seller does not have any pictures with the unit installed, but has said the following:

    Hello,

It is not the same unit as soling. The manufacturer is made by Road Rover techology in China. There unit are pretty good and they use more quality parts. I can offer you a 30 days full refund if you are not happy with it. The only thing is you will have to send it back at your own cost. Like I said this is new unit and we have couple of left. I'm also waiting for a response from use car dealers that will install it to their cars.

    Thank you

Wow....well after reading the specs on the item#
260827856849, I think that unit is better than the one I posted. The price is beyond comparison at least. Need to get one of those.

This is straight marketing sales - and DOES NOT belong in this forum. There is a different forum for selling things.

The fact that you bash the competition "They use more quality parts" is a joke - REALLY??? Which parts have "more quality" - do you have a list and specs to back this up?

This leads to the ultimate question - why would someone trust you when you are already being dishonest and clearly have no clue that this forum is not for sales and marketing....

    Shame on you.........

Be aware that item 260827856849 is for right hand drive Prius which will not be any good if you need a left hand drive unit.

I think the poster was doing a cut and paste job on the blurb from the actual seller for our info, and not trying to sell the unit. He even admits the unit we were discussing is better than the one he found.

AFAIK, Road Rover is known as the good quality HU producer. I can confirm this as I'm running their HU (AUTODVDGPS) for more then 1.5 year without any production quality problem(knock, knock on the wooden desk :)). I said PQ not a quality itself, as a FM/AM radio part is worse then OEM one (bad FM reception and RDS). My prefernces were: superior GPS navigation with quick GPS fix(currently iGo Primo 1.2), MP3&DVD player, rearview camera. All these criterias are met well. The unit never had any hickup/UI glitch or need for hard-reset.
As I see UI of unit mentioned above, http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...4772-factory-look-gps-ebay-8.html#post1373422, it is exactly same as for mine with one microSD card slot shared by GPS, MP3, notebooks and so on.

rrolff, I am sorry if my post upset you. As johalareewi has pointed out, I was merely relaying the seller's response to my inquiry about the model/manufacturer of the RH unit. The seller's views are not my own.

PaJa, thank you for your input regarding Road Rover. Would happen to have a picture of the unit you mentioned installed in your Prius?
