Both wife's Touring and mine average between 48 and 51 per tank.

I originally voted the 45-50 mpg catagory (relatively new owner) but have now averaged over 50 mpg for thousands of miles & appx one year of driving. I also changed to Kuhmo KR21 195-60R15 tires & confident Michelin & couple other brands would have beat this average.

I drive 7 mi to work & not great roads. The remainder is high speed, windy, hilly driving. I have been very impressed with the Prius.

This poll gives some pretty useful statistical information. Just thought I'd bump this in case any newer users want to contribute.

    I voted for 50-55 BTW. Though I sometimes get 55-60. :)

Wow - it was over 2 years ago I posted my mpg's here. But I met this Leaf driver down at the Laguna Beach ribbon cutting ceremony (new Columb EV charge port) a couple days ago who also had a Gen II Prius. He somewhat proudly bragged how he's never gotten mpg's any higher than in the high 20's because of short trips, lead foot/hard breaking high speed driving. I thought to myself, "why bother". Therefore, I didn't bother asking how many miles per kWh he was getting in his Leaf.

Never seen this thread. Mine hovers around 52 mpg. Some times my fill ups will be 49-50 mpg, yesterday it was 54.2.

My 2004 Prius with over 120,000 miles on the odometer... averages 52-54 mpg in the spring- summer- fall.... 50-52 mpg in the winter..... mixed city and highway traffic in the Wash DC area....

Average 48-50 mpg during long distance highway at speeds averaging 75 mph for 2 hours or more.

I have found that mpg drops to 44-46 mpg at speed above 75 mph...

My average MPG has changed over the years. Commute, driving style and tires are what has altered my average.

With 15" OEM wheels and LRR tires I achieve 50-52mpg on my work commute which includes a 1,100 ft. elevation gain. On flat highways at 65mph I can achieve 55+ mpg easily.

The same conditions but with 17x7" wheels and old non-LRR tires I drop down to approx. 44mpg.

I just ordered LRR Primacy MXM4 215/45/17 tires so we'll see how much my mpg improves.

Agreed. I see that I originally marked 60-65.
These days, per tank averages in the summer are consistently 65-70 with a handful - if I try - exceeding 70.
Lifetime average, however, is still 55-60.

We get 46.2 Lifetime which is really about 47.0 if I take the roof rack carrier and canoe out of the averages. Possible slight drop off- still have orig 12-volt batt. Will join 100000 club before end of 2011. Winter is what prevents attaining 50 MPG.

Thats about the same as me - I've been flirting with 70 for the last month on my dash display, and getting 67 or so smoothed average tanks.

First summer (09) I was happy with 55, and got 46 or so that winter.
Last year, I started pulse and glide, and got up to 62-3 in the summer, retreating to 50 last winter. This year I'm 5 mpg better (67), probably because I started grille blocking over the winter.

I have 57 mpg lifetime at 55k miles on this car now............59 since I started the P&G

Do not believe those over 55mpg!

Sorry but I find no credibility to those who claim over 55 mpg. We have two 2007 prius that get between 45-50 mpg, each one has 80,000+ miles. Anyone who claims otherwise is telling falsehoods or lives on the Bonneville Salt Flats:eek:

Re: Do not believe those over 55mpg!

Or they have a different commute than you do. Or they have fuel efficient modifications. Or they know how to drive more efficiently than you do. Etc.. :)

It's not that hard to pull off a 55+mpg tank if you have the right conditions in your favor and you take the time to apply the right techniques. There are a number of PC members that achieve 60-70mpg tanks on a regular basis.

I only do it when I want to brag. lol

Yes it's still a little early in the tank but this one's shaping up to be a good one. More typically I average closer to 56.... 80% highway, 20% local. Mostly level ground...

Re: Do not believe those over 55mpg!

Why do you say that? Because you personally haven't done it? It is entirely credible. I usually average about 53 mpg, but I routinely achieve 60 mpg or better on some local trips to different places. My commute to work is only 7 miles, during which my engine barely warms up and to reach stage 4. Short commutes kill mileage (not just in the Prius, but in any car). If my commute was twice as far, I would easily average 60-65 mpg. The highest speed limit along my commute is 40 mph, which greatly enables P&G driving. I once achieved 75 mpg on a 500 mile trip from Monterey to San Diego, taking the easy-going scenic coast route.

Re: Do not believe those over 55mpg!

I live in mildly hilly country in NE Mass. In summer, pulse and glide driving at 35-40 MPH over my daily commute of 52 miles (RT) yields around 75MPG, sometimes more. In winter, it falls off to around 55MPG.

Highway driving (65-75MPH) is not as good for me (maybe 57 in summer, 49 in winter). Since I commute more than I drive highways, I get a bit over 60MPG all told.

It's really not hard to do this. I pump my tires up pretty high (47/45 PSI) and I have a partial grille block even in summer (its been cool and rainy here), but I don't use a scangauge, and thus cannot be considered too hardcore:D Nor am I a perpetual mendacity machine.

I'll bet that the tires or grille block, combined with commute length, is the difference.

Jeez, I just got a new phone that I don't yet know how to use, or I'd show you the first 53 miles of my new tank (82 MPG!). The sun finally came out here............

I have a 2005 Prius with 80,000 miles and have been getting 42 to 44 mpg and all the sudden I am getting 30 to 35 mpg and the car seems sluggish. My driving habits have not changed and the dealer says there is nothing wrong with car after they tested it. What should I be looking for?

If you're on your original 12 volt battery, it's almost certainly on its last legs and should be replaecd.
