C really looks like it is based on Prius, just shortened, and not an Yaris HSD... look at the windshield angle in 2012 Yaris and Prius C - nothing alike.

Spwolf, when I saw the prototype, wrapped in black cloth, last week, it literally looked like the photo below and did NOT look like the Yaris, Matrix, or anything except definitely the image below. As you'll recall (go back and reread if needed), I specifically mentioned it looked "long."

Yea definately Auris size. Judging by the hood, Prius c has the same 1.8 liter HSD.

thats what i thought as well.

it is good too as Auris sized car can answer the needs of being only family car... Yaris based a little bit less so (even if new Yaris is larger than before).

But it seems to be Prius family for sure, and not just using Auris components.

Would the north american equivalent of the Auris be the Matrix? If so it would help estimate the size of the c for us NAers.

Well, kind of... not as tall as matrix? Matrix is like old Corolla Verso, like a wagon/mpv based on same wheelbase as Corolla... Auris is just regular 5 door hatchback - like Golf/GTI.
Actually I expect dimensions to be like CT200h or slightly smaller due to smaller overhangs.

    I agree!

I really like the way the car looks. Unfortunately for us Prius owners, buying a new Prius C wouldn't pencil out economically even if the car got 60mpg average. I'd personally only save $446/yr (26,000 miles / 47mpg and 26,000 miles / 60mpg). :(

The headlights look very very similar, if not identical to the standard Prius w/ halogens.

Not gonna be in the market for this one... one of my main complaints about the Frontier is no rear leg room for my boys... there is plenty of room in the regular Prius.

But perhaps one day for my kids.....

Just get the Prius v. Tons of room and still great as mileage. The difference in fuel economy is likely only a few hundred per year. Small price to pay for so much room and a great car.

Wow, F8L is so right about the Prius v. I just took a look at fueleconomy.gov. The Frontier has a combined mileage of 16 for the 4WD and 19 for the 2WD. The Prius v more than doubles the mileage of small SUVs.
A comparable Volvo V50 2WD has less cargo capacity with a combined of 23mpg vs 42.

Having 4 cars in the Prius line is really going to increase showroom traffic. I think the Chevy Volt does just that for the Chevy Cruze resulting in great sale numbers; 22,711 units last month. The Volt is used as bait for the salesman to sell the Cruze.

Yep, I remember listening to the podcast and Danny was talking about the Prius v and had just sold his 2010 Prius in anticipation. That's a good endorsement right there.
