Just wondering if any of you have more info about "INRIX" Real Time Traffic Information provider, I just bought 2011 Prius III and after XM trial, I don't want to go with them, is there any other alternative for traffic info?
    Thanks

real time traffic service for Prius is through XM radio service. No XM service, no traffic service. They do offer $3.99 per month traffic/no radio service.

I believe INRIX service is for cars with Microsoft SYNC.

According to INRIX Toyota signed a deal with them.

Toyota Taps INRIX to Power Entune™

INRIX and Toyota have teamed up to fuel its navigation systems with real-time traffic information for the automaker’s new Entune multimedia system. Debuting on the new Toyota Prius V, Entune uses vehicle owners’ mobile phone to access INRX’s real-time traffic information to provide the following:

    • Up-to-the-minute alerts to accidents, road closures, construction and other potential traffic causing delays along drivers’ routes and the best way to navigate around them
    • Navigation to any destination based on the fastest available route
    • Expected travel journey times and ETAs

I bought a garmin gps 255wt and it came with lifeime traffic free. The GPS cost me $79. Works like a charm and the traffic info has been dead on correct so far (several months).

    Works for me.

That's for the upcoming 2012 models that have the Entune system. As far as I can tell, the 2011/2010 wouldn't be factory compatible with INRIX. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, that sounds consistent with what I've heard before. If you want traffic, the whole traffic, and nothing but the traffic, (aka traffic without radio) they'll charge you $10/month.

Yup! It's Toyota's answer to Ford SYNC and such. I believe new Prius v comes with that as an option. Not in our current Prius model.

Tell them to shove it! CLICK HERE

I think when it comes to XM, you have to tell them about the promotion before they even offer those prices to you. Happened to me last time, but that was 4 years ago so I could be wrong.

The more I use it, the more worthless the traffic information seems to be- I swear a monkey with a magic 8 ball could do better. I'm curious how many here have experienced "slow traffic" or "stop and go traffic" in rural areas, or while cruising down the freeway at 70mph? Perhaps there was an issue HOURS ago, but if that's the case, why am I paying so much for "live" traffic data?

Just FYI - XM recently started offering a navtraffic-only subscription for $3.99/month.

But I still haven't signed up because the nav unit didn't seem to automatically give me the best route home during my XM trial. Sigh.
