    pEEf,

Throughout your investigations, have you encountered any evidence for use of CAN Bus Remote Frame Requests in the Prius, for diagnostics or otherwise?

I read on another site that they're "not used on the Prius" but there was no citation given.

    Update!

I am considering selling this car. It's a 2008 Prius with 30k miles in great shape. I would be selling the system as described above. It includes the 864 cell A123 pack, charger, BMS, custom battery ECU, high-speed EV capability, etc. The pack alone is worth over $10k and is in perfect health.

Has HID, Nav, Bluetooth, Many many custom mods (see my posts), new Optima 12v battery, upgraded stereo with subwoofer, and LED lighting mods throughout.

The book value of the car alone is around $17k, so the lowest offer I'll consider selling for is $25k.

Now that I have a Leaf and a range-extender, I no longer need my Prius, and it's sad to see it sit unused when it could be giving someone many low-cost EV miles!

Best offer takes it! Buyer is responsible for pickup here in Berkeley, CA. I can demonstrate the car and offer test drives by appointment almost any time.

    Pictures to come soon.

    Today is the day.
I have been looking for the next hot car. anticipating dwindling sales and holding my breath.
I purchased a Honda CRZ, fixed it and nobody bought it.
the demographic for selling rebuilt vehicles is already narrow, and even smaller for a two seater.
But the Leaf... thats interesting. our colleague pEEf has joined the collective.
I wish Nissan sold them here in the midwest!

Phil, your car is the best custom PHEV that I've ever heard of. I hope you find a buyer that will appreciate all that it can do, and the time that you put into it.

Gen III is not the next hot car for AutoBeYours?

There is a Volt in Copart, first one I remember seeing. I wonder if it will clear the auction without catching fire. I have yet to see a Leaf go through. Seems like Chevy and Nissan would offer bounty to insurance cos for wrecks, and pull the batteries for a reman program.

Wow you have a fleet of hybrids yourself Seilerts,
the 3rd Gen Prius left a bad impression with me because of the high parts count ( and cost) also the operating system is more difficult to perform service on (or with).
    from a salvage restoration perspective.
pEEf's phev is an affordable alternative to a VOLT, and performs as good or better.

    Thanks Steve!

If you want a Leaf, I can probably help you get one. You'll just have to ship it to Indiana. =)

If you find a salvaged one, I am always looking,
it has been my experience that in time... desirable vehicles show up at auction.

    Dear Phil,

I am a new guy on this forum, and now just reading and reading.
I think you can easiliy make numerous people happy by selling or open source your BMS method.
I think lot of people (including me) would like to change their old, heavy, week OEM battery pack to a new, light, strong Li battery pack.

Do not let your work to waste.

    Thanks
    Europ

The Prius discussed in this topic is now for sale, as I now have a Leaf along with a range-extender, which meets all my driving needs!

Will it work? certainly yes. For the 2nd, 3rd and the PiP Prius.
Has it be done before, yes.
Now it would be very nice to have a peak to the power source of it; 2 Lp Gas tanks? is it Bridges approved?

I just bought a wrecked LEAF, when we get it repaired, I'll be like you, ..well except I'll still have a prius :)
I have never held an EVSE in my hand, How can I tell if it has been upgraded? do you place a decal or something on it Peef?

Thinking about this thread last night and agree with someone posting earlier that if the OP could open source the Prius project (after the car is sold) that would be very nice.

If he doesn't respond, try checking mynissanleaf.com for threads started by Ingineer, as he's known there.

Ahh, so that was YOU that got the red one in Oregon! I had some bids on it was well. I want to make test setup, but it went for way more than I can afford.

If the EVSE has been upgraded by us, it will have an L6-20 plug on it and also a sticker on the back with the revised ratings. Here's a picture of an upgraded unit:

yes, Thanks for the data. the car will be here around the end of the month.
We should talk if you are bidding on another one, there is no point in competing.
cool range extender btw! in other news, I will send photos of my friends jet propelled range extender around 4-1-2012.[IMG];)

Knowing Steve we'll probably be seeing a range extender built out of the front end of a Prius sometime soon :) Congrats on the Leaf!

A "Limo Leaf" would be a cool idea, as you when you stretch the car you get to add additional packs pretty easily. =)
