I use these guys as my benchmark: Buy Solar Panels - Kyocera, Mitsubishi, Sanyo, Sharp, REC Solar and More! By that standard, $2/watt is a good price, well toward the bottom of the pack.
That's definitely cheaper. I've just changed my benchmark. Edit: But definitely quirky. Every one of their system packages says: "NOTE: The (fill-in-the-blank) is designed for tropical climates. For colder weather, this system may need to be adjusted or redesigned." No clue what they mean by that. But those are some excellent prices. Thanks, Icarus.
I'm glad to see that major retailers like Costco, Home Depot, etc are selling solar panels now! Twenty-five years ago, if you told someone you could just go to a store and buy solar panels, they would tell you that you were from outerspace.
