Ok... let's exclude Volts that we've seen at a dealer or at Volt test drive events. I finally saw one today on the road. It was red one in Bellevue/Redmond, WA in the afternoon. It was way off in the distance and I could only guess that it had Arizona plates based on what I could barely make out. AFAIK, WA and AZ aren't Volt launch markets...
I've seen several driving in NYC (Manhattan). My dad said he saw one on the road while on a weekend trip in Lancaster PA last weekend.
Yesterday I drove up to Long Island New York from Delaware to take delivery of Volt #1883. We were trading in my 8 yr old Gen I Prius. 8 yrs ago we traveled to a dealer in PA to get the prius, few people knew what they were and sightings were rare. On just the trip up on the Jersey Turnpike yesterday we counted 64 prii. It made me feel good to think about how far hybrids have come. I hope someday Volt sightings are equally common.
I see Volts almost every trip out of the house but I doubt many are actually purchased, as I live in a Northern Detroit suburb, where many of my neighbors are GM engineers.
I've seen two in the wild, one multiple times on my way to work. One of them is silver the other a nice dark color. IMO the dark color looks much better. The black trim(?) that goes below the doors looks weird on the light colored Volts. Saw my first Leaf on the road yesterday. Looked better in person than I was expecting.
February 3 was my first and only sighting. It was pretty much a non-event, since no one else seemed to notice it. I did get a little pleasure in confirming the impractical design of the back bumper. The extreme angle, rather than just being flat like any other vehicle, prevents it from supporting a bike rack. It lacks a rear wiper too. .
Rear wipers are so 90's when new designs do fine without them...even my lowly Accord. Why does the Prius need one ?
Is your Accord a hatchback? Rear wipers are still commonly found on wagons, hatchbacks and minivans. I saw a silver one with Michigan plates by Fort Belvoir (south of DC) the other week. And one here in SF this week, bit dirtier.
Accord still has a hatchback (excepting the Crosstour)? How did I miss that? I would have upgraded my old Accord hatchback -- with rear wiper -- much sooner had I known that. (I kept it 23 years before upgrading that slot in the household fleet to a 2010 Prius).
I've seen 2 or 3 Volts around town so far, one silver, one black. I've seen 2 Leafs on the road and 1 on a car carrier so far.
I only seen one before, Silver on the freeway passing me on the left. Saw 1 red Leaf parked so far. Had to do a double take because I almost thought it was a Versa. Since it was new the paint looked excellent, offsetting the strange design of the car.
I live about 3/8 mile from Courtesy Chevrolet and I've only seen 3 total (2 within a 1/2 mile of the dealership and 1 on 280/Lawrence). I've seen 1 Leaf, that was a double take. The Volt is what you would call an epic fail.
I have seen one in Washington DC. I think I have seen a second one around Ellicott City, MD. They look exactly like someone stole the front end off an Acura. Bleh.
I have seen one driving around my town, and I found it (I presume...or another one) parked outside an office building today while I was cycling. I guess that's where it lives during the day.
