automatically lock doors 30 seconds after exiting car.

for anyone interested, i have found a maker of a simple module that can be easily added under the dash with five wires. easy to install and does NOT require integration into the databus (CANbus) system. installed on 2011 GenIII currently.

The processor looks for the (+) ignition to be turned on, then waits for it to go back off. It then looks at the (-) door pin input and waits for the door to open then close again. At that point, there is an LED output that starts flashing slowly for 20 seconds. During this 20 second period the processor is monitoring both the ignition input and the door pin input - if either of them toggle their state the timer pauses, then starts over once both signals are clear. After 20 seconds the module outputs a short beep through an external hood mounted beeper and then the LED starts flashing quickly for 10 seconds, while the processor continues to monitor the inputs (and resets to the very beginning if something changes). At the end of this 10 second period the module outputs a (-) door lock signal. Finally, the LED output flashes at a slow rate to simulate an aftermarket security system.

LED and beeper optional when installing.

Funny, I was just thinking about this the other day when I left the Prius thinking it would be an even smarter system if it would lock itself after you leave.

Have you already done this mod and if so, any drawbacks to it?

Or you can install an aftermarket alarm system that does this.

Hmm... Unless the system knows the key is not in the car, sounds like this is just an easy way to automatically lock your keys.

Here's a alarm system with "Smart Door System", it arms and disarms automatically when you approach or leave the car. You're going to have to carry another annoying FOD tho

    you people are funny.
if you think you'll lock your keys in the car (really??)- the same keys you don't have to take out of your pocket (again, really??), then you don't want this...... seriously, the keys stay in your pocket!!
if you want a $400+ alarm system vs. a tenth of that, then you don't want this.

anyone who wants the makers name and the precise pins to wire when installing, just PM me.

I think the chance of locking the keys in the car is a lot lower for me, because I do keep my keys in my pocket than my wife who keeps them in her purse.

However, there was one time that I did leave my keys in the car. I took the car to a car wash and had to get out while they ran it through the machine. I was afraid they'd shut off the car and not be able to start it again, so I left the keys in the cupholder. I got back in and drove to work and didn't remember that the keys were in the cupholder until the car yelled at me when I tried to lock it with the SKS system. That's one time I left the keys in the car out of probably hundreds of times that I've left the car in the 5 months I've it, however, if I had locked the keys in the car that would have made for a pretty bad day for me (and my wife, who would have had to drive 45 minutes out of her way to come rescue me).

If this system works for you, then more power to you, but until it can detect if I've left the key in the car I think I'll stick to manually locking it.

With the Viper System if you lock your keys in your car, you can unlock your car with your cell phone anywhere in the world. Both my wife and I have the app on our smart phones. If I lose my phone and lock my keys in the car she can unlock it remotely anywhere in the world.

I keep the FOB in my pocket all the time while in the car. My wife keeps her FOB in her purse, but wrapped in alum. foil because sometimes she likes to keep her purse in the car rather than carry.

    Hi Everette,
I am very interested in this relay. I would like any and all information you could send to me about this. I have the smart key on my Prius III and it is a pain sometimes because I have forgotten to lock it a couple of times.

    Thanks,
    BSWEET
