Looks like Juda Prius caved in and bought one according to some other threads Ive seen. I wonder if I will to when the dealers call some day soon about my order.

To clarify, what I meant before..is when your order online for plugin, there will be a set price..so to me ordering online gives the consumer power, so logically this would give way to a smaller or set commission to the Toyota salesmen...er..woman. But hey, but just going off father logic..as for the battery shortage..not sure about that. The plugin Prius uses a completely different battery then the ones used for standard Prius, and there have been at least one recently built plant based in the USA, that builds these batteries exclusively..so again, I don't know if there is that much merit to to DianneWhitemire's statements..I believe she is as much in the dark as everyone else when it comes to the supply/demand situation in the Fall...But if anyone did any real research, they would see and find that even Toyota themselves have stated that production will be at 70 percent this month and be fully back to normal by late fall....gas prices will fluctuate..but should stabilize baring any more major wars..but on the flip-side, if waiting 5-6 months to save 1-2 thousand dollars off MSRP, will also cost you the same in gas bills..then its wash..be realistic and do what makes you happy within your means..whew..:)

Wow, didn't know this thread was still going. Yes, I caved in and bought one. Actually, I didn't really cave in. I usually have buyer's remorse for most high end $$$ items that I buy. Well, I did in the past. However, I really didn't want to sink any more money into the Corolla I had. With repairs that it needed, it was close to the down payment I used, plus another $2,000 Toyota gave me for the trade-in.

It was well worth it, and I still feel great about my purchase. Could I have gotten a better deal in 6 months? Probably. Would I have been miserable driving a somewhat reliable, oil consuming car during that time? Definitely.

All I did was cut some small luxuries and expenses to make my car payment equal to what I was already spending.

I got the windows tinted today, and it looks great :D

    clarification

You are right that the plug ins have different batteries BUT the parts FOR the making OF the batteries is coming from the same general direction ... and the technology for the majority of the car (chips) and such are all stalled as far as availability. I didn't get into detail as much as you would have preferred, sorry.

This is one summer that I finally get some time off (LOL) as there's not much of anything to sell. For a store that sells an average of 300 new cars and trucks a month or more.. and as many as 400 with me now back here since March, we're being allocated only 135-140 cars a month now. Meaning, on a personal level, it's frustrating to be sitrtin' in my seat! Everyone wants deals on product that's NOT here, NOT on ground, incoming at some undetermined time... I have stuff on my inventory list COMING that was supposed to get built the build weeks of 4/29 (yes, April 29) that's STILL unbuilt. And, it's June 11th.

I can't really sell something in transit... you can't drive something in transit. I can promise it to you.. and wait for it...

Anyway... it's one challenging time and for those who don't jump ship and buy some other product right now, I applaud you. Anything worth having is always worth waiting for.

I also wish to mention that the plug-in orders comment about the car being an order for the consumer, and NOT for the dealership being the spot for delivery, that is pretty true, not 100% absolute yet. We don't know how the plug in ordcers will affect the allocations of the v wagon and the regular Prii.

The consumer has some power in their plug in order but it's a unique observation. I'm taking a hit from other folks/areas locally regarding my promise to discount this plug-in model because I also see it that way - if you order and I get, you deserve a bonus from me for choosing me. A lot of dealerships do not want to do this (it sets a precedent) and they have their reasons, but I also have mine. Sorry - no sheep here at my desk.
