    My $0.02...
    Let Toyota handle it.
It's covered by warranty, and by documenting the symptoms (and not abusing the car, of course!) you've satisfied your end of the contract.
As Tom pointed out earlier, you might be a prime candidate for an extended warranty if you want to keep the car for more than another year or two.

The DRCC is a doppler radar device. Not my field really...but I'm thinking that it does not care what color a passing car happens to be.
If it's not environmental (another emitter) it's going to be your emitter, or something that's making your DRCC think that it's seeing an up-doppler shift when there really isn't one.

Either way...it's probably a replace rather than a repair thing.

    Good Luck!

Just got back from a 500 mile road trip and having used it a good 400 miles of the trip it did not do it again. And I used the same route it did it to me the one other time... I even had motorcycles in front of me for a time and the smaller object didn't make it do it.

For the past two days, DRCC has worked as advertised, even though weather has not changed...still hot as hell!

Yeah it's weird that it's only in the afternoon. I was about to say the same thing that 32k suggested - that it's misaligned and it's detecting every sign post and lamp post at the side of the road. Have you tried other roads? Do you have someone else with DRCC that can test the same road you take home in the afternoon?

I hope that it is that simple. The past 2 days, I have use he same roads without it malfunctioning.

Would you believe that you encountered a Cone of Silence? The area around a high value asset where electronic signals from devices like radars and GPS units are distorted. Your Nav might just think you went into a tunnel but I have seen the raw data from my GIS/GPS software showing the lose of resolution. Well this my random event theory anyway.

I just noticed on the video of the dash DRCC display, the LKA was also engaged as well. Is it possible that the LKA had possibly caused the problem? Just a thought!!

Do you think the angle of the sun and solar heating of the DRCC sensor may have caused the sensor to malfunction? Is your grill partly blocked, increasing heat around the sensor. Could this be an intermittent heat-related DRCC-sensor or computer glitch?

Good thought. I will check my grill.

Any LEOs (law enforcement officers) on PriusChat care to comment on whether cop radars would mess with the prius DRCC doppler radar?

I'm not sure they would know the details of the Prius' DRCC. It would be interesting to drive with a radar detector (if it even works w/DRCC on) and see if there are any detections that coincide w/Thai's malfunction.

I know there are X, K and Ka bands of radar in use in the US by police. K and Ka tend to be the only ones that might be real. I've gotten only a single legit (AFAIK) X-band detection ever. IIRC, a friend (who also owns a radar detector) was in my car at the time and we were both surprised.

I think someone said the some time ago that the wavelengths for police radar and the DRCC are not close to one another...

From what I've gathered, the DRCC operates in a much higher band than the 'old' X and K band radars, which top out at something like 40-GHz.

If my minute research is accurate, DRCC operates at 77-Gig, (W band.)
Although you could get some 'burn through' from a large, close emitter (E-3 Sentry AWACS) operating in a different spectrum, I don't think that Po-Po's radar gun is going to bother it much.

    TIFWIW....

You'd know you were in a cone-of-silence if your shoe-phone drops its signal too. :p
