Hi cwerdna, Thanks for the heads up! Here is the diagram for the nut on the pinion shaft that will be replaced with self-locking nut. TOYOTA Æ’Å Æ’RÂ[ƒ‹“™Âî•ñ
A buddy / co-worker bought my neighbor's Gen I on my recommendation ... just printed the notice to give to him. Thanks! True - yet in the same vein, in our litigious country, you know what they say about "an ounce of prevention"
Are you willing to say the same thing about Ford and their recall of Windstar minivans from 1997+ model years? Rare Buyout Offer Comes with Ford Windstar Recall
I look at each recall individually. If it took 10+ years for this nut to work its way loose, I call that wear and tear. Nothing is designed to last forever (except maybe plastic water bottles). At what point does wear & tear take effect vs recall at these ages? If this was something that was recognized within 3-5 years (these things normally take some time to come to fruition), then absolutely recall worthy, IMO.
This is one of the reasons i will always go Toyota. Last year with the 2000-2003 Toyota frame rust recall, i got a brand new complete frame (chassis), 2 front lower suspension arms, 2 front upper suspension arms and the spare tire carrier replacement along with 3 months brand new 2010 Toyota Tundra loaner while the dealer was waiting for the parts to be manufactured, all these free of charge. SHOW ME ANY CAR MANUFACTURER IN TE WORLD THAT CAN BEATS THIS!!!! To complement the 2000 Toyota Tundra which i only use for my business, i just purchased last week-end a 2011 Toyota Prius four. It's my way to keep my family tradition. We have owned Toyota cars for 3 generations now. Because they are reliable. PERIOD!
I had a similar failure on my 1995 Mustang. I think they shared the same 3.8 liter V6? My Dad worked with Ford at the time and it was a known issue. They offered me $$ off of a new Ford, but that experience has sworn me off of Fords for a long time.
Hate to rain on the parade, but to sell a car in the US, you are responsible for correcting safety-related defects for a period of 10 years.
