Can anyone recommend a replacement tire for a 2008 Prius? I usually purchase my tires at Costco...but I don't necessarily have to. I've read a lot of posts, but I'm still unsure of which tire would be best. Just looking for a good all around quality tire that won't kill my gas mileage and will have a decent ride. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

I bought the Goodyear Viva Authority Fuel Max's last fall - they are the Walmart exclusive version of the Assurance tires. I bought them simply because they were about $15 less per tire than the Sears version and from my research they were almost identical - the only difference was a variation in the tread design. So far I have been very happy - they deliver good mileage and handle as well as I had hoped and they did well this winter in the snow and rain. The only reason that I would not buy the same tire in the future would be wear, but it is too early for me to know.
Hey everyone, My name is Chris and i just bought new tires for my 2005 Prius. I decided to go with Nokian ENtyre. I must say, i was extremely impressed. The handling in wet weather was infinitely better than the Michelin tires i had on previously. Has anyone else tried Nokian tires?
Beach Guy, I see you are from NY. So am I. The original tires on mine were horrid. I did a bit of research, mainly through this forum and elsewhere, and ended up buying the Michelin Hydro Edge tires. There was a very slight hit on mileage, mainly until; the new tires became broken in. Overall handling is like a entirely different car. Especially during rain where the originals were borderline dangerous. And not too bad in snow either, where the originals were simply dangerous. Yes, they are a more expensive tire, but you can shop around or buy through tires direct on line or tire rack for savings. Or there may be a rebate on these yet. Considering these are rated as a 100.000 mile tire, I think you will get your moneys worth out of them. I printed out the discount tires direct quote, and went to Dunn tire locally, where they dropped a significant amount off their price to be competitive. And now locally I have road hazard warranty, free rotation, and a local shop instead of doing it on-line. I'm really happy with them.
I plan on replacing my integritys with the Bridgestone Ecopia 422's based on tire rack reviews, treadwear rating and treadwear pattern. I have had great luck with bridgestones and I feel these tires will do the job (being an LRR tire is also a plus)
Yes, I bought the Nokian EnTYRE. No complaints, but I haven't done any MPG comparisons with them. However, an odd thing. Despite the 700 wear rating, they have no warranty. They should last a long time, but they don't back it. Perhaps because Nokian specialized in winter tires, which don't have warranties. And, as a plus to those who overinflate their tires for MPG, they are rated for over 50PSI. -->Adam
the Nokian eNtyre is a great SUMMER/AW tire, but in Michigan I would think that the Nokian WRg2 which has good snow/ice traction would be a better choice (or get winter tires for the bad weather periods, again Nokian has some great choices). Both are Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) tires and produce good MPG. The only drawbacks to the WRg2s are that they are 50k mile tires (not 70k) and are a bit noisier (but not extremely so) than the summer tires. JeffD
If it helps, I just met up with Boo from here today and besides his car having a sick a$$ webasto 4300 sunroof , He had the upgraded 195/60/15 tire size from stock 185/65/15.... they looked much meatier and wider and more substantial, like they belonged on the car decisions decisions....my only issue right now is in that size, besides the Michelin MXV4 primacy, there aren't many good all seasons to choose from
Some of us consider almost all all season tires to be 3 season tires. Not worth much if the temp gets below even freezing.
FWIW my tire guy just convinced me, so I pulled the trigger.... 195/60/15 Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max for fuel savings, passenger all season rating and increased traction footprint (195 upsize). I'll see how they are when they come in Monday.
