Need a little help. I'm in the process of installing my new system and cannot get the steerring wheel controls to respond. Kenwood DNX-7160 Deck Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface Metra 70-8114 Swc add-on Harness W/Rca For Toyota Iv'e checked and double-checked my wiring. All is correct according to the instructions. Brown wire on ASWC connected to blue/yellow on deck. The ASWC acts like it's auto programming when I reset it and it gives me a solid red LED but steering controls don't work. Would appreciate any insight so I can finish up this install. Thanks.
There is a problem with this unit and current Kenwood HUs. The documentation is on Axxess website. You need to use a resistor when programming the unit. The resistor is removed after you complete programming. end of the instructions: Note: The following three models, DNX9960, DNX7160, and DDX896, need a 10k to 12k ohm resistor between the Blue/Yellow of the Kenwood and the Brown wire of the female 3.5 during programming. After programming remove the resistor and reconnect the Blue/Yellow and brown wire.
Yes. That was the answer I got from Metra. Didn't see that in the instructions anywhere. I'm happy to report that this does work.
I was trying to get my ASWC to work also, but finally gave up and got a PAC's SWI-JACK that worked without any resistors. Later I found the following about ASWC install posted on another forum: Here's what they told me to do to get it to work: 1) Disconnect the ASWC output wire (in my case, the pink wire) from the Blue/pink striped wire on the 9980HD. 2) Connect a 12Kohm resistor (soldered a 10K and two 1K resistors in series) in series between the two wires from step one. 3) Reset the ASWC by pressing the reset switch for about 2 seconds. 4) Let the ASWC run through the auto-program process. 5) Remove the resistor and reconnect the two wires from step one. Edit: Sometimes there is a delay when pressing buttons on the steering wheel, and sometimes the buttons does not work at all and must be pressed 1-2 times more in order to get the command on HU. I ordered new ASWC and will set it up using instructions above. I'll update this post once I have it in place, I've red on Amazon that ASWC is much faster than PAC.
I already posted the information regarding ASWC. The instructions for the SWI-Jack indicate the need to solder a 560 Ohm resistor between the wires on pin 7 and 8. Connect pin 6 wire to ground. Connect pin 7 to the INTERFACE's White wire. Connect one end of a 560 ohm resistor to pin 8, then connect the other end of the resistor to the INTERFACE's white wire. So basically you will have two wires, one with a resistor in series, connected to the INTERFACE's White wire. You were able to skip this step and get the unit to work? Why don't you let PAC know so they can correct the instructions. iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future
My installer initially tried to do it with resistor but it didn't work, so he tried without resistor and used some other model Toyota than the one listed in manual and that worked. I still regret not knowing how to program ASWC at the time of install as time to time I am having problems with buttons that does not send commands to HU (or the HU not accepting signals from steering wheel). Peace.
I checked a half dozen Toyota's on the PAC website. All require a resistor. Your installer didn't use a resistor and you're having problems with the steering wheel controls. I'm not sure why you insist the controls worked when your installer decided the resistor wasn't necessary. The part of your post I bolded suggests they're not working.
The instructions posted by cleansky worked for me. I got the instructions by calling Metras support line.
kind of OT but i have a pioneer avic z130bt, everything was installed everything correctly but all of a sudden my SWC stopped working,(i am using the axxess module) but when i took everything out all the wires look good, all my connections are soldered and plugged, then i put everything back in everything works again. Did anyone run into same issue before?
