Hey guys. I finally got my one-week time slice on one of the 2012 Prius PHV vehicles. Let me know if you have any questions. Observations: Capacity: Unoffically, I've heard 5.2 kWh but I haven't seen Toyota confirm. Charging Style: Standard 110V AC. Draws 12A @ 110V. I'll get more readings on the Kill-A-Watt and let you know more. Typical charge takes about 200 minutes and pulls in about 3.7 - 3.8 kWh Rated Range: Range is rated (on my mule) for 14.0 mi on EV. With a light foot, I can usually eek out about 19-20 mi , but my foot is much lighter than most. Observations: -Engine does light over 60 MPH. -S1 is observed when you have 2.0 or less miles left in PHV-EV mode. -Once in full HV mode, the standard prius modes seem to be in effect. -Fully charged pack reads SoC between 78.8 and 80.3 (via ScanGauge). -Transition from PHV to HV happens at 26.2 SoC -Typical HV mode seems to range from 26 SoC to 24 SoC -Below 24 SoC, engine almost always lights (kinda like below 40 SoC in Gen III). -25.0 SoC seems to match 53.6 SoC in a standard Gen III. This is when you get the "SoC downshift". Let me know if there are any Q's outstanding. -Dan <11011011>
What range did you see for all electric? whoops, I read your first post more carefully and saw your range numbers. Was that mostly highway? How about a group meet to let other Houston locals see it?
Nope... no HW miles. I'm looking for the upper limit first so I'm driving with a lighter foot than most. HW miles are going to be mixed mode. It will use gas and electric to power the car. I'd expect that It will hold 99.9 for 15-20 miles then drop down to 40-50 mpg per most HW drives. But it's gonna burn gas the whole time unless HW means 55 mph. If you wanted to swing by Cypress, I'd be happy to meet at Jitterbug's ( cafejitterbug.com | ). We'd just have to pick a time. -Dan <11011011>
Boy, you are out in the boonies! I guess you won't have it next weekend, so it would have to be short notice on a holiday weekend? Personally, I'm free anytime today. Probably going to Austin tomorrow. I doubt anyone wants to do a meet on Monday.
It's a nice opportunity! The official source... max capacity 5.2kWh charge power usage 3.56kWh We can observe the target SOC is 60% in Gen3 which can be seen on the long and flat highway cruising. What SOC value can be observed as the target SOC? I guess 26.0, 26.5% or similar. The forced charging starts below 40% and ends above 50% in Gen3. So, what SOC value will stop charging? Thanks in advance, Ken@Japan
So, when do you have to give up the car Dan? What are your overall impressions from living with it for a week? Overall MPG? Any drawbacks for people with either short or long commutes?
Nice report! The kwh usable amount calculates out to 5.2 * (0.80-0.26) = 2.8 kwh. A 14 mile range implies 200 wh/mile. That is not going to hold up on the EPA cycle. More like 11.2 miles based on 250 wh/mile.
