Do the buttons on the steering wheel control the radio? Do the soft buttons on the MFD control the radio? Are you just talking about the phisical buttons on the radio? A little more info would help...
Shouldn't have to just deal. The radio should perform and do what I paid for it to do. Car radios have been around for a long long time, and I have never had one issue with a car radio button until now. I am disappointed that Toyota never addressed it.
I hear ya but parts go bad. Rarely are stereo units perfect, especially in the car audio world. I worked in that field for over a decade and even brand new $2000+ units can go bad within a year.
I have a 2009 prius and this happened to me just recently. The rotary controls on the radio (volume, and tune) worked but the buttons did not. I slapped strongly several times the buttons with my hand hoping that something inside was just loose and fall back into place. Fortunately that worked. Buttons started working again. Saved me the trouble of going to the dealership.
Then maybe I have just been lucky, because this is my first car radio issue.....ever. And I have been driving for 37 years.
Ive had this issue, what I did was pull up on the bottom lip of the radio a little and they started working. After that I installed my tablet in my car, now I have internet radio and 16gb of music with me. SPH-P100 ?
I've had the problem intermittently in the past. Then the buttons inexplicably start working again. And for some reason, I haven't had the problem at all in the past 12 - 18 months. If the problem persists, or appears often enough to drive you nuts, then I think the last place you would want to go is the dealer. The dealer will not fix the unit. It'll just pop a new one in at a cost of around $1500. You'd be better off putting in an aftermarket unit. Or, if you want OEM, then get a used unit with a 90 day warranty from LKQ on ebay for around $75.
