    Hello Fellow Prius Fanatics,

I am in the market for a brand new Prius. But of course, there are none on the ground and I would have to be on a waiting list to get one and pay full MSRP. So I looked at the used Prius Market and found the used car prices for Prius were quite insane. But did find one used 2010 Prius for sale from a private seller trying to get out of his lease. Here are the specs.

Silver 201o Prius III with Solar Roof package minus the leather seats at 5000 miles. They are asking for 26,500 for it.

My question is should I purchase this barely used Prius (if so, what would be a fair offer), or should I hold out for a Brand new Prius in the fall when Supply has been replenished and demand is down. This way I can get the exact color scheme I want! (Blue with Bisque interior, Prius II). If I get one one in the fall, I will save some money since I am just getting the base Prius II, no package) and MSRP and demand will likely be down allowing me some wiggle room.

I'll take my answers offline. Thanks!

I would wait. It is always suspicious that someone would want to dump a car after only 5000 miles...and dump a Prius when gas prices are fluctuating and poor economy....

Thanks for the quick reply, Thai. I was thinking of the same thing. But its' off a lease that the gentleman wants to get out of. He walks to work and His wife works from home. So he does not need the second car. His strory checks out as I did some minor background research on him. But if the car is leased and I can confirm that it is with a good carfax, should I be less concerned? Or is there another angle that I am not considering? Thanks!

you can do a thorough check on the car and make a reasonable decision as to the quality of the vehicle. a fair price is simply the lowest price he will accept. right now, it's a very high price. if price is your major concern, i would wait until supply improves. will it be the fall? depends on gas prices and tsunami recovery. all the best!

    Thanks Bisco,

Assuming the lowest price he would accept is $24,000. would that be a fair price?

Do you know what his payoff is? Doesn't hurt to ask and if he won't tell you, then consider walking. Food for thought; You can't buy a III with sunroof for the price he's selling it for. A 2011 would be over $29k sticker and most dealers aren't dealing much if at all off it. Never hurts to ask for lower price, but $24K offer on a $26.5 price is not realistic in this market. Good luck.

i think it's fair, and a very good price if it's in 5000 mile condition and has the solar roof!

I would wait and get what you really want or you will probably be disappointed later. I have to admit tho, BP white wasn't even on my long-list but I really like it now.

Take an aspirin for your new car fever and wait till Christmas, barring a war in the middle east, another Japanese earthquake, or some other disaster, prices should be lower. Then you can get what you want. By the way I got an '11 model 2, could have gotten a base 3 for one thousand more, wish I had, better stereo, blu tooth and Sat radio would have been worth it in retrospect.:(

Thanks for all the replies everyone, keep 'em coming! Its very helpful to see everyone's opinion..:) I am in no hurry for sure to buy a Prius, so I have time and a *little* patience on my side. Seeing the silver prius tomorrow and Most likely.. if I like it, I'll throw out the 24K offer. Otherwise, I'll just walk away and know that in the fall..I'll be seeing my blue beauty..:D..Sigh...I have to admit..part of the fun is the waiting..haha...

For those of you looking for a new Prius III,IV,V there are still a few of these available here in the Tampa bay area. If you are willing to fly or drive to this part of Florida there would be no wait for your new car. Good luck
