Hey all, My question is when I start my Prius, set my emergency brake, shift into B-mode, is then the HV battery charging continuously with the computer regulating it of course? Just wondering what the Prius techies can tell me? Joe
B mode isn't for Battery, it's for engine Braking. Don't think this would do what you would expect it to do. I would expect it to wear out your brakes quicker. Kyle 02 Prius
I'm new to the Prius, but from reading up, and my car, B is for engine/regenerative braking mostly for downhill, or slowing down without the use (or less use) of brakes. It does not wear out, or apply your brakes. It uses the traction motor to slow down and that energy is used to charge the traction battery.
If for any reason you want the traction battery to charge up, step on both pedals and shift into "D". It will charge, and it may heat the battery to a degree that some would consider unwise.
