A Toyota Prius suddenly stalled, then unaccountably took off and smashed into the tow truck that had come to remove it. Toyota has warned Prius owners of a software glitch that can cause ...

So the car was unable to be turned off, and moved on its own when removed from the towtruck?

Doesn't that sound like it was dragged on in-gear, and then somehow rebooted without going to Park?

Or maybe it's just a good story to use to dump the car...

That's FUD BS - exagerrating the story to hype it and attract a larger audience... "The moment my car was detached from the tow truck, I saw the car moving forward and it hit the truck. My car was damaged on the front fender.†Sounds more like he didn't try shutting it off.

"Again I would like to reiterate that I left the car as is with all the warning indicators on as I couldn't do anything with them as all the controls froze. My car was towed to a nearby safe place.â€

Buddy, did you try the effing power button?!

Heh. I wonder if it was on, in "D", and desperately trying to creep
the entire time it was being towed...

Probably not. If the engine had failed, and it couldn't start, the HV battery would have either shutdown or given out. Perhaps a new glitch?

"with all the warning indicators on as I couldn't do anything with them as all the controls froze"

I didn't know you can do anything with the indicator lights. What can you do with them? Go hang out with them and invite them to meet your parents. Make out with them on a Saturday night?

Controls froze? What is this a video game? To unfreeze just hit the x button twice, y button 3 times, left left, right right, then start. DUH

I had the "problem" happen to me once, and my electric engine did have enough power to get me to the side of the freeway I turned it off and turned it on and i was on my way. Not nearly as big of a deal as they are making it.

I am bringing my Prius in for the fix soon but I simply think this story is very done up.
