Finally saw a V driving. Now I get it.

I'm ok with them too, that's why I changed the post.

How do you like the ride quality with the V? I just remember being on freeway 'joints' that were wavy and it was a little bouncy. Other than that it was fine.

 

cycledrum, i came from rough riding vehicles...so, the Prius is like an old day Caddy! My Sienna is too soft and floats. I testdrove a Camry and felt floating also. Accords/Acura TSX ride is nice, and is probably the closest in terms of ride to the Prius V. The Accord/TSX does ride a tad more comfy. Otherwise, i don't mind it one bit. And i think that most V owners feel that the ride/handling compromise is very good...you just don't see many (if at all) change to a smaller rim or higher profile tire. Texas roads are not known for smoothness...i have no issues with ride comfort.

 

I park in a small lot at work, around 50 cars. Including mine there can be as many as 7 Prii on a given day. I pass 2-3 parked Prii on my commute every day. Every day I notice at least 5 other Prii driving, sometimes many more. Since last November when I bought mine I've only spotted two other Vs, one driving and one parked. The parked one didn't have the ATP and I didn't stare at the bumper of the driving one to see if it had it.

So, whilst Prii are certainly prevalent around here, the V certainly isn't.

 

I like the feel of it while driving and I like the quality of the ride allot compared to my previous car which had the same size wheels and tires as my V. Our roads here are generally crappy but as long as I avoid all but the deepest pot holes this car rides quite nice. No complaints from the wife yet all she did before was complain about my old car a 2005 Saab 9-2x. I keep my tire pressures at 40 PSI all the way around it makes the ride a little stiffer but not bone jarring.

Thai what do you keep your tires PSI at?

I think the 17's are optimal for the sportier look on the car. I saw one with 18's and 40 tires and it was a little over. Asking $4k for car in showroom. I doubt you could get a 215/40-18 hybrid type tire anyway.

 

ED, my tire pressure is 35 psi.

Don't forget, my gut feeling is that my Ecopia tire sidewall is a tiny bit stiffer than OEM Toyos. This is good in handling since it is a "summer" tire. However, it does give a slightly stiffer ride (again, all gut feeling). So, although i have not tried it, if i went to 40 or above psi, then i may need new kidneys!! (just kidding! It is not that stiff!)

 

Oh I see you had OE Toyo's now you have some Bridgestone Ecopia tires.

My OE tires are the Bridgestone Turanza EL 400-02's. I recon it's all a matter of comfort and different tires will have different PSI's to find the sweet spot. It is a balance between comfort and economy when setting your pressures.

To be honest, i have no scientific data nor method. Why 35 psi? Well, factory is around 32 psi i think. So, i just pump it up to 35 because it is easier to see the marking on my tire gauge! In addition, i won't have to pump it up during colder weather.

Yes, i am a lazy guy....

 

My V/ATP/NAV has the door bottom mouldings too. Very unique. I have not seen one like it anywhere. I too use LKA/DRCC on long trips when I'd rather not hypermile. Don't like parking assist. I'm afraid I'll hit something.

 

Oh yeah, since April 2010...so, it's been over a year of pure joy with my Five!
