[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec0-Qz-PfME"]YouTube - 2010 Prius w/ custom Fiberglass Enclosure‏[/ame] Amp: Alpine PDX-1.600 Subwoofer: Alpine SWR-843D 8" Type-R Dual 4Ohm. Not wanting to sacrifice the trunk space, I decided to fiberglass the left cubby hole of the trunk. Sub enclosure is built to fit snug without having to add any kind of strap or tie-downs to the vehicle. It sits in the smaller left compartment perfectly. I was going to paint it with Blizzard Pearl White but decided to just throw on some carpeting instead (much easier). I might make another one, but for sure it will be painted rather than carpeting. I'm happy with the way things turned out. The lower trunk compartments can still be used as well. The enclosure was built with a volume of about 0.35 cubic feet, as recommended by ALPINE-USA.

Very nice. Is there a reason why you didn't want to use a flat 10" instead? You still had some airspace available. I'm guessing you had the 8" laying around and figure you'd use it rather than buying something new?
You guys are just so darn clever. Be nice if you could make a form from that thing and send it around. Let us know how it really sounds...
Here is mine that I had done a little over a year ago, but mine is on the right side. As you can see, trunk space was a concern of mine too. Made sure I could still open the floor storage door. Sounds great! It's a 10" sub too by the way.
fiberglass is easy once you are used to it, just pretty messy. Check out the parts I make for MGB's and TR7's - Parts - morSpeed Performance Products
No it's brand new. Just to prove a point to my friends that an 8" Type-R sub can hit just as clean as a 10". I didn't get it for the big big bang, just to enhance the entire audio setup, .....and I was bored and just needed a project to do at the time.
I took pics along the entire process, when I have time, I will do a write-up. I'm not saying I'm pro or what not, but have done about a dozen Fiberglass enclosures and racks for friends and personal vehicles. I myself learned through trial and error. But so far, it's been fun and challenging and I'm sure once you complete your first project, It'll get smoother from there. I'd say definitely give it a shot, you get to appreciate that it's your own work. As soon as I do a write-up, I'll personally message you to let you know it's up.
Thanks! Would a subwoofer enclosure (specifically for Prius) be a good first project? What was your first project? Just wondering.
What would it take to put a 10" on that left side, I got Tim's on the right side, I don't think I'm going to put one on the right but symmetry might eventually get to my head.:mod:
after seeing that video, I really think the 10" will fit. Maybe over the Holidays I can get a prototype made.
