hi all, i began to search for topics and something caught my attention. at this point, i am not sure if i overpaid for the prius. On May7, i bought a white prius 3 , 2011 for 28K with 2-year free service in orange county, Califorinia. can anyone let me know my price is higher than it should be? FYI, they upgraded the wood dashboard interior, chrome handles, chrome wheel. Please let me know what you think
Not living in California, I can't give you an answer based on regional information. But somewhat unfortunately, automobiles are a big ticket item, that still exists in a "Camel Trader" enviroment. I'd say if this was 6 months ago? You overpaid. But given the tragedy in Japan, coupled with dwindling supply, growing demand? What you paid may easily not be unreasonable for Prius right now... I'm looking at used Gen 2 Prius- 2,3 years old being sold for $20,000+, if that makes you feel any better. Ultimately, once you've purchased the automobile, the longer you keep it, the better the "value". If you like the vehicle and drive it for a decade? Then you will have gotten a good deal.
Sounds like a lot of dealer installed options, which are subject to being priced at the dealer's whim! Not knowing what exactly was added and not knowing what, if any, options were included from the factory on the car, it's hard to say if you over paid or not. I never take the dealer installed options because typically they are grossly over priced! Generally you can do way better over the internet, even on the Toyota aftermarket parts.
Not possible to tell without more info: #1) Is that the out-the-door price (including tax, docs, registration & delivery)? Please can clarify the negotiated purchase price without tax, registration, license, etc. Be careful to indicate if delivery is in that price. #2) Did you get Nav and/or Solar Roof? #3) What are the sticker prices for all the dealer add-ons ToyotaCare is complimentary and included with almost all new Toyotas purchased these days. I did have one sales person pretending it was an extra or a feature that justified a higher price tag. Needless to say after that the entire experience was a waste of time, as he lost my business.
if i knew about this site before buying the new prius, i'd have a better deal. i am sure. it is too late however. anyway, i thank you all very much for feedback/helps. :cheer2:
Chrome handles and wood dashboard on a Prius? Sounds fugly. Do you have pics? What kind of wheels did they put on? Hopefully they're not heavy.
If you got what you wanted at the price you were willing to pay then no you did not overpay. Don't worry about what others think. These cars are now going for sticker price or over.
