Do the headlights have to be on in order to have the washer work without the windshield washers being activated?

If you register on Toyota's Owners Page, you can download all the available manuals for the vehicle registered. They may just be the US Manuals however...

To start a Prius, place your foot on the brake pedal, and press medium hard. Then push the power button. That is all there is too it. If you do not press the brake pedal while pusing the power button, the car will come up in non-driving modes.

 

On the Prius V/Five (United States), if you have your headlights on and you activate the windshield washer the headlight washer will automatically come on at the same time. This is by design.

If you find the headlight washer completely useless or you want to be able to wash the windshield without the headlight washer splattering water all over your hood while you have the headlights on, just pull the fuse to the headlight washer.

 

To turn it off, either put it in Park (press the Park button) and then the power button, or press the brake down and press the power button.

 

Yes, you have to have the headlights turned on for the washers to work.

I don't know? Is it right or left hand drive and which side of the road do you use?

 

We have the headlight washers on our Canadian Touring model (has 17" wheels, led headlights, similar to the US V). The headlight washers will only work if the headlights are on, but they don't activate every time you use the windshield washers: there's an extra button for the headlight washers. It's on the dash, kind of above your left knee.

 

I have the US V Prius. To activate headlight washer spray, lights must be turned on. Headlight washer will spray only when you push the designated headlight washer spray button locacted on left side of drivers panel near your left knee cap. Using the windshield washer lever will not spray headlight lenses.

 

If your head lights are on and you activate the windshield washer the head light washer will spray also.

Don't they sell Toyotas in Sri Lanka? If not, wouldn't it be easier to import one from India since it's closer? What's so special about a Japanese Prius? Do they have trims/options you want and not available locally? Which one did your dad get and options?

 

Toyota Sri Lanka is still not ready to import as they have some pre-requesit to meet.

Prius in India is too expensive as India applies local taxes.

Most of the Prius coming from Japan are used once and as Japan has the largest market it is the cheapest. Shipping and other costs are not that high .

 

JDM products are the worst to import as far as language is concerned. Years ago when I went to Sendai, Japan, I saw some really cool stuff but everything is in Japanese with no option to select other languages. In Japan, English is almost never used. My sister and I stayed for 3 days and the whole time we were there, we only encountered 1 person who spoke English. He worked as a waiter at Yoshinoya. We were so grateful that we tried to tip them but he wouldn't accept it. Oh well. Not to throw the thread off course but I gotta say that Japanese people are one of the nicest and friendliest people around. Well, at least the ones in Japan they are. This also brings sadness to me when I saw the Sendai airport flooded during the tsunami. I think you're just gonna have to live with Japanese displays. Not sure what ECU controls the language though.

 

Which Owner's Page do you refer to? I found one but it wouldn't take a VIN number to register since it was mfrd in Japan. It took only non-Japan manufactured VIN #s.

If you are on Maui your VIN won't work because the Toyota owners site where you can get the PDF owners manual is only for cars sold in the mainland U.S.A. Toyota Hawaii is separate from Toyota U.S.A.

All Prii for the for the USDM are made in Japan as are most others, with the exception of those made in Thailand for the mainland Asian market.

This has been answered in previous threads. It is not possible to change the language in JDM prius. Replacing with UK will be highly complicated. (US version will be even complex as it has left hand drive).
