Hope I'm not violating any rules - I just purchased a brand-new 2010 Prius II and am VERY anxious to find a trader whom will trade a lightly-used IV or V with Solar roof/nav/leather (preferably blue) Anyone know of any websites that do this or any of you interested?!
Well, with the IV it could come with solar roof, not V though. I would think there will be some cash flowing from you to make that happen. Good luck though. Blue is a cool color. Little tough to keep scratch free and little hotter in warm weather. I had one for a couple years.
Cash flowing is something I anticipated...I just REALLY want to make this trade and I hope I find a way
Why not just trade it in at a dealer and be done with it ... it's very unlikely it will ever happen in a person to person trade. I'd just start going to dealerships and start getting numbers ... you have nothing to lose and you just might hit one that for one reason or another needs your car and would like to unload his car. You'd have more of a chance doing that, and you'd get the sales tax advantage that way. Take all the time you need to do it, keep track of the various deals, and eventually it will happen ... there;s certainly no PRESSING reason why it absolutely HAS to be done quickly is there ? Not quite sure why you'd be 'VERY anxious' to do this .... why didn't you just buy the car you wanted in the first place ? REV
You can buy, leather, and a better radio/nav and have it installed on your car, alot cheaper than it will cost you to trade. You won't get the solar roof but is it really usefull?
Maybe not violating rules, but I am moving this to the Private Sales forum which is more appropriate.
True REV I'm anxious because I couldn't afford the straight package IV..$3,000 extra is a bit redic. I feel like if I got a lightly used one (couldnt find one at the time I needed to buy) I will get a good deal. As for leather/radio I planned on making changes but the Solar roof really impressed me and makes the car look much more sleek.
In this market it's not going to happen. The AAA price for any new 2011 is over MSRP. Dealers have 1 or 2 new 2011s on the lot & nothing used. A used 2010 isn't going to be cheap & if it is "lightly used" I'd suspect the asking price to be MSRP.
If you just bought it why didn't you buy a IV with solar roof to begin with? You could have saved thousands.
A couple of people who keen after a black rooftop have bought an aftermarket cover. I do not remember the material. The pictures actually look OK. As for an aftermarket head unit: many to choose from today, and I suspect a whole lot more (and improved) choices a year from now. Car exchange ? I'l be amazed if any offers surface, let alone cost savings compared to the $3k difference bought new.
Also gotta remember DMV doesn't recognize car exchange or trade amongst private parties. They look at it as selling the vehicles to eachother and therefore both parties must pay sales tax on the value of eachother's vehicle in order to register the vehicles. The only way to avoid sales tax is to prove to them on paper that it's a gift. Years ago, I wanted to trade my car for my brother's car. We went down to the DMV and told them that we want to change the owners on the title. They said pay the sales tax on the value of both vehicle. I told them, no money exchange involved, it's like we're giving our cars to eachother. They said no.
we can do it here among immediate family members only. but it's very obscure at the dmv and you have to spend a lot of time getting to the right person.
i wouldn't put it that way. you still have a great car. the II is probably the best value for the money. and you can continue to look for what you really want while still getting great mpg's. all the best!
