Friday I will be picking up my black 2011 Prius! From an 11 mpg truck to 50 mpg...how sweet that sounds. Hello everyone!
Aloha and congratulations on the purchase of your new Prius! I am glad I only drive my 12 MPG van on Saturdays. You will enjoy the savings and economy the Prius will give you.
Thanks! Cant wait! I look forward to learning all about this car..especially excited about finding how many surfboards I can pack in and how many spots I can get to on one tank!
You could probably fit in a 9'0" board with nobody in the front passenger seat, 6" and below short boards should be no problem. Where are you surfing at? You should be able to go there and back with some fuel and range to spare. Look forward to a 500 mile range in the warmer months. Posted from my iPhone via the Tapatalk app.
sounds awesome. Ill be packing everything from my 5'5 retro twin to my 10 ft Walden (have to find a way the fit that puppy in) Doing my surfing mostly up and down the coat of New Jersey. Really looking forward to trips without the need to refuel.
After you pick it up, I recommend driving it normally for a little bit to learn what the car does and how it behaves. Usually when you try too hard, you actually make things worse and get poorer fuel economy. Just drive it normally. If you really want to try hard off the bat, limit it to timing lights and braking slowly. Accelerate normally and pretend the battery doesn't even exist. Toyota techs put lots of engineering into the car and immediately it will know more than you do. Once you learn what the car knows, you can try to alter it.
Thanks for the insight, Toaster...I did notice immediately I was trying to be as fuel efficient as possible on the test drive, but your suggestion seems right on point. Can't learn a car until you learn what is different about hybrids and how they behave.
After 5 yrs of driving or 120k miles you can throw a big party and celebrate the fact you saved over $20,000 in fuel! I know I did. I sold my 14 mpg truck for a Prius 6 yrs ago.
Here are some examples of what Prii can haul. http://priuschat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90008 Posted from my iPhone via the Tapatalk app.
It really is amazing how much you really can fit in the prii. Also had a question about mileage. Not too beat up about it, but during the test drives I noticed pretty low mpg(in the high 20's). When should I expect that to increase as the engine breaks in??
You cannot base your average mpg on a few miles of driving. Drive for a full tank and that will give you an idea of what you may get. Most people get better MPG after owning the vehicle for a few months to a year. You learn how to drive efficiently and that will increase your MPG more than you'll see from the car breaking in. I can go 20 miles an easily see over 100mpg but eventually reality kicks in and I have to go about my normal commute. Then my mpg will drop to 50ish. I can also drive or 20 miles and get 20mpg easily too. It's all about averages and you need a larger number of miles to balance things out.
Definately agree. Just looking for affirmation that I'll be seeing an increase in mpg with age. Thanks for your experiences!
You will weep with joy the first time you fill it up.....600 miles on less than 12 gallons of fuel!!!!!
You may see and increase with age or you may not be able to tell. You are more likely to see an increase when you learn how to drive it more efficiently (like not using the EV mode often) and/or adopt hypermiling techniques. Either way you'll get much better MPG than any other car out there and if you're like the rest of us, you'll love it!
Thats great if you made it to 600 miles. The best i have done is 550. My best milliage lately have been last week when I had my A/C on and AVG 56 MPG on 3 75 mile trips home. I know the warmer weather makes a differance but I thought it would go down using the A/C.
