Can someone please tell me what this tank is for? There is a connection off of it that houses a magnetic propeller of sorts. This got broken in an accident and I am trying to figure out what it is so I can look for parts. Thanks!
Coolant heat recovery tank. Coolant gets pumped into that when you shutdown, then back out of it and into the engine when you start back up in order to speed warmup... basically an expensive thermos bottle with a pump and sensors. Only exists in generation 2 priuses sold in north america i believe.
I think that part's fine. It's the car attached to it that needs to be replaced. But seriously, I think the inverter cooling system is in that area too, could the "propeller" be the air intake for the inverter?
There is no "air intake" for the inverter; it is water cooled. There is a water pump on the other side of the frame rail from the coolant tank though. FYI: list price for the tank is about $1000.
