Ok no fat jokes... Lol I hear people saying they shut off the beeping when they put it in reverse... Others say the dealer did it in 5 min... Can someone tell me what I can do or what I can tell the dealer they need to do to only have it beep once?
I haven't done it, and I don't know how to do it, but I know there is a thread here (may be more than one) that discusses about stopping the beep. I recently read in a thread how they got the dealer to change it to a single beep. Do some searching around, I am too lazy to look it up for you.
There is a list of customizable settings in the owners manual. Get some time in the car so you can figure out what you want to change then make an appointment with the Service Dept. to get them changed for free. Hold on to that customer satisfaction survey until the car is configured to your satisfaction. If they try to charge you contact the Service Manager, Sales Manager, or General Manager. Test the stuff before leavving to ensure they got it right. It will probably take you longer to get to the dealer than it will take them to change the settings. The car is much more civilized without the seat belt & back up beeps.
If you have a ScanGuageII or know someone who does, take a look at this thread, it seems to have instructions on how to do it yourself: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...06-scangaugeii-work-2010-a-4.html#post1037042 If you don't have access to a ScanGuageII, here is a thread with discussion from people who have had various levels of success in convincing their local dealership to make the change for them: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...ussion/83948-back-up-beeping-prius-3-a-2.html
A couple of thoughts: 1. Anytime the battery is disconnected, this is just one more custom setting that will have to be reset. 2. Have you ever had something foisted on you, thought it was unfair, uncalled for, and finally saw at least some wisdom in it, decided to live with it. Maybe this is one instance. How often are you in reverse, and for how long? Just maybe, sometime, you'll have a lapse of attention, forget you're in reverse, think you're in drive. Bottom line: it's a bit of a pain, but has it's upside too.
Wow, you called me out on that one because I've been there, done it and did it with reverse and in forward gear after pulling in the garage and forgetting I've not turned off the car. This is why I don't get coffee breaks; they can't afford to retrain me. I actually prefer the reverse beep.
The trouble is that in most circumstances, you ignore it (including the time you need it). This is the 'are you sure' problem in computer interface design. Users are asked every time if they really want to do what they just tried to do. They get into the habit of just hitting yes. It becomes part of the ritual, and thus the thinking comes after it is too late. Moreover, it desensitizes you a bit to ALL beeping. Audio warnings should be reserved for unusual circumstances.
It is your car, personalize it the way you want. If you like the beeping, keep it. If you don't like it get it changed to a single beep. I did. My dealer did mine for no charge.
This is not true. My dealer turned off my backup beep (for free) shortly after I got the car. I've since disconnected the battery several times while I've been doing work on the car and the backup beep stayed off.
As Spiderman and BrettS point out, fortunately the customized settings are not effected by disconnecting the 12V battery. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...v-battery-no-change-customizable-options.html
