I've had this happen many times when turning off the car and then pushing the button again for the radio. I think it's a timing thing. If you hit the power button immediately after turning off it goes right back into ready mode. If you wait half a beat or so then it doesn't. I've been meaning to look it up and see if this feature is designed in that way, but have never gotten around to it.
I found a small grey skinned guy with long fingers in mine last week. I told him that he better get out of here, and haven't seen him since. I think he was trying to abduct my cat, but who the heck knows. I have heard that the Prius uses alien technology from some Neanderthals that I have the dubious pleasure of knowing. Then again, what do they know, they still drive around in horse powered buggies!
Yeah, that's what I was wondering. In previous non-hybrids, I of course always shut it off. With the Prius, I'm wondering about just putting it in park. That way it'll still be warm & running after the fill-up. Anyone else want to chime in on this?
I keep the car off on the off chance the car will start the engine. I don't keep conventional cars running when I fill up on gas.
I seem to recall reading here that there is something that changes when it is off vs in Ready mode, that is related to the fuel system, and it should be off when fueling. Tom, was that you? I have meant to put it in Acc mode, had the foot on the brake out of habit and unintentionally put it in Ready mode and that is what I suspect happened to the Op.
Or the OP pushed the button too quickly after turning off (even with the foot off the brake), in which case it'll fail to switch mode. This is per the manual.
I just put it in park.......with the updated gas vapor return hoses on most gas pumps in the country.......I don't see a problem with it......chance of a spark causing a gas explosion are slim. My opinion !!!!!!
I'd be willing to say it is zero from the engine starting. Static electricity is another matter when the air is very dry but that has nothing to do with the engine.
Congrats! Lets add the human factor into the operation. You turned the car off then turned it on again (foot was on the brake). Enter Ready mode, Radio came back on, you got out of the car, it beeped 3 times, you ignored it. 10 seconds later the car started while you were filling up. Simple.
You must have one of the new radioactive mutant its alive models! Had this happen with a Lexus, OK who has the 2nd keyfob on them? I don't get to drive these fancy pushbutton type cars that much. Always forgetting to push off or ending up in acc ie why are the wipers still on.
